Today is World Ophthalmologist Day!
World Ophthalmology Day is celebrated annually on August 8th. It is a day to recognize and appreciate the work of ophthalmologists, who are medical doctors specializing in eye and vision care. The day was established by the Australian Society of Ophthalmologists (A*O) to raise awareness about the crucial role of ophthalmologists in preserving and restoring sight.

National Stroke Week takes place from 4th - 11th August 2025. National Stroke Week 2025 promotes community awareness of the F.A.S.T. (Face, Arms, Speech and Time) signs of stroke to empower individuals to save a life in the event of a stroke affecting a loved one or oneself.

Myopia Awareness Week: 19-25 May 2025

Myopia, is an increasingly common ocular disorder and the leading cause of visual impairment in children. Studies have predicted that the global prevalence of myopia will rise from 28% of the world’s population, or two billion people in 2010, to 50% of the world’s population, or five billion people in 2050.

Uncorrected myopia is a leading cause of blindness worldwide.
