We are pleased to welcome Dr Elkanah Kabilis to our team.

Elkanah graduated from medical school in 2008 and has worked in several hospitals before migrating to Australia in 2023. He has a master’s degree in human physiology and obtained the membership of the Family Medicine Faculty of the West African College of Physicians through training and examinations as well as Postgraduate diploma in Family Medicine from Loma Linda University USA/CMC Vellore India. Elkanah has special interest in whole person health, management of chronic diseases, Health assessments, Men’s health, women’s health, child health, travel health, immunisation, mental health and medical education.

There are outbreaks of measles in many overseas countries and also recent cases in mainland Australia. We don’t have any in Tasmania yet, but it is important to be prepared, especially with people travelling for school holidays and Easter.

Measles is very infectious and spreads easily through coughs and sneezes. 🤧

People with measles may get a fever, cough, a runny nose, and sore red eyes. Most get a red blotchy rash about four days later, usually starting on the face and spreading down the body.

👉 The best protection against measles is vaccination. Measles vaccination is part of routine childhood vaccinations at 12 and 18 months. It is also available free for anyone born during or after 1966 who has not had two doses of a measles vaccine or a blood test showing they are immune.

👉 Being up to date with measles vaccination is important for anyone travelling, especially if they are going overseas. Babies aged 6 to 12 months who are travelling overseas can get an early measles vaccine.

The team at HSFP recently gathered to celebrate the retirement of Marion and Dr Henley. We wish them all the best for their future.

A note from Dr Henley - The time has finally come. I have retired. My last day touched my heart and soul receiving lovely written cards and presents from some amazing patients, some who I have known over 20 years. It was an unexpected day of sadness so if I miss you all too much I might start all over again.
