🎨 Mental Health Week Art Exhibition Launch at Calvary St Luke’s
On Monday, 6 October, Calvary St Luke’s proudly hosted the official launch of its Mental Health Art Exhibition on Level 2 with the theme of "Appreciate the Little Things"; marking a meaningful start to Mental Health Week.
The exhibition showcases a diverse array of creative expressions—including crocheting, knitting, painting, origami, photography, and pottery—highlighting the therapeutic power of art in mental health recovery. Attendees were invited to participate in interactive activities, such as sharing one thing they were grateful for and engaging in conversations with unfamiliar faces, fostering connection and encouraging open dialogue.
Kate Pryde, General Manager of Calvary St Vincent’s and St Luke’s, officially opened the event with a heartfelt recognition of the artistic talent showcased throughout the exhibition. She also paid tribute to the vital role of carers—both personal and professional—whose ongoing support is essential to those navigating the complexities of mental health.
Amanda Aitken from the Mental Health Council of Tasmania addressed the audience, expressing her enthusiasm for the relaunch of the Mental Health Day Therapy Unit. She also spoke about the Council’s “Take a Minute” initiative, available via their app at https://ow.ly/t3NX50X7vcP, which promotes mindfulness and mental wellbeing.
Dr George Hyde spoke about the future direction of the Unit, emphasising the critical need for accessible mental health services across Tasmania. He noted that the relaunch represents a significant step toward reducing barriers and expanding support for those in need.
