While the experience of CoVID19 has been nowhere as extreme as experienced in the US, UK, Italy, Spain or China, it is a good time to think about the doctor's role in times of health crisis.

Albert Camus, the French writer and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, wrote the below article primarily metaphorically (in his great novel, The Plague, the outbreak of bubonic plague in a North African city is an absurdist metaphor for the spread of fascism across Europe, as well as the human condition) his follow-up essay is worth a read as a philosophical reflection on the role of the doctor.

Just don't get caught up in the overall pessimism of Camus' general approach to life, the universe and everything!
