🌟 Meet Melissa, Registered Nurse Care Manager at Salveo Healthcare! 🌟

With 7 years at Salveo Healthcare, Melissa brings warmth, expertise, and a genuine passion for empowering her clients.

What does she love most about her work? It’s all about visiting clients—some she’s known since her very first day! Melissa finds it incredibly rewarding to help people become more proactive in managing their health, gain confidence, and take charge of their own health journey. She’s especially passionate about supporting clients to understand health literacy, so they feel empowered to ask the right questions and make informed decisions.

A memorable moment? For Melissa, it’s the privilege of following her clients’ health journeys through ups and downs, celebrating their successes, and seeing them take ownership of their wellbeing.

Fun fact she recently learned? On her recent travels to the UK—especially Scotland—Melissa found herself retracing the steps of Mary, Queen of Scots, visiting castles and even Westminster Abbey! 🏰

When she’s off the clock, you’ll find Melissa at the beach house with her family and two dogs, walking along the shore, enjoying the sea breeze, boating, and even catching the odd fish or crayfish (with a little help from clients’ secret spots!). 🐾🌊🎣

Her favourite personal preventative health practice? Spending time outdoors, especially walking along the beach, to clear her mind and reset. Fresh air, movement, and nature make a huge difference to both her physical and mental wellbeing. 🌅

Melissa’s recommendation? She just finished watching the first series of “This City is Ours,” set in Liverpool—a city she recently visited. She loved seeing familiar places on screen and getting caught up in all the twists and turns! 📺

It’s ! 🏛️✨ Can you guess where we’ve been this time?

Our clinical team continues to bring vital health programs and support to Tasmanians in their homes and communities. This week, we found ourselves taking a snapshot in the heart of one of Tasmania’s cities, surrounded by grand architecture and stories from the past.

The photo captures a magnificent heritage building with a stately row of tall columns, ornate detailing, and stairs leading up to its impressive entrance. Bathed in golden afternoon light, its creamy facade stands out against a soft blue sky. This building has witnessed countless events and celebrations.

😴 Sleep isn’t a luxury — it’s a health essential.

At Salveo Healthcare, we’re passionate about helping Tasmanians prioritise their wellbeing — and that starts with better sleep.

📊 According to the Sleep Health Foundation:
• Nearly half of Australians (46%) say poor sleep affects their ability to work or study.
• Young adults aged 18–44 are losing up to five days of productivity each week due to poor sleep.
• 1 in 5 Australians now use sleep medication regularly — a sign that many are struggling to get the rest they need.

The good news? You can improve your sleep with simple habits known as sleep hygiene:
🕰️ Stick to a consistent bedtime and wake-up time
📵 Turn off screens 1–2 hours before bed
🌿 Create a calming wind-down routine (like reading or a warm bath)
🛏️ Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet

Sleep is one of the most powerful tools we have for better mood, focus, and health. Let’s stop treating poor sleep as “normal” — and start making rest a priority.

💬 What’s one thing you can do to sleep better?

At Salveo Healthcare, we believe everyone should be able to understand and use health information easily. That’s what health literacy means — making sure people can find, understand, and use health info to make good decisions about their health.

But sometimes, we come across jargon — words that are too technical, confusing, or just not clear. Jargon can make people feel left out or unsure. Drop the Jargon Day reminds us to work to change that.

💬 What health jargon do you really dislike? Tell us the words or phrases that make you go “huh?”

Let’s make talking about your health simple, clear, and kind.

It’s ! 🌊🌳 Can you guess where we’ve been this time?

Our team has been on the move again, delivering the Advanced Preventative Care Program, St Lukes Private Postnatal Service, and Falls Prevention Program—bringing essential health services right into Tasmanian homes and communities. Along the way, we’re lucky to witness some of the state’s most breathtaking landscapes.

This week’s photo captures a truly iconic Tasmanian scene: a dramatic isthmus of rolling green dunes stretching between two sparkling bays, with winding boardwalks leading down to the sand. In the distance, mountains rise along the horizon, fluffy clouds drift across a brilliant blue sky, and the tranquil water reflects the wild beauty of our coastline. It’s moments like these that remind us why we love working on the road!

Social connection isn’t just good for the soul—it’s vital for your health ❤️🤝

In Australia, 1 in 5 people say they feel lonely. For older adults, this can lead to serious health problems like:

• Falling or needing hospital care
• Living a shorter life

Here are some easy ways older people can stay connected:

📞 Call or visit friends and family regularly
🏡 Take part in community programs or volunteer
📚 Join a club – for books, craft or games?
🎨 Learn a new skill – art, dance or gardening?
💻 Use video calls or online groups to chat

Happy ! Setting goals is a great way to stay on track with your health. One effective method is using SMART goals. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

Here's how you can use SMART goals to support your health:
🔍 Specific: Be clear about what you want to achieve. Instead of saying "I want to be healthier," say "I want to walk 30 minutes every day."
📏 Measurable: Make sure you can track your progress. For example, you can use a pedometer, your phone or smart device to count your steps or keep a journal of your daily walks.
✅ Achievable: Set goals that are realistic for you. If you're new to exercise, start with a goal of walking 10 minutes a day and gradually increase the time.
🎯 Relevant: Choose goals that matter to you and your health. If you enjoy walking, it will be easier to stick with it.
⏰ Time-bound: Set a deadline for your goal. For example, "I want to walk 30 minutes every day for the next month."

By setting SMART goals, you can create a clear plan to improve your health and stay motivated. Remember, every small step counts! 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

🎉 Congratulations to our first Falls Prevention Program graduates! 👏

We’re thrilled to announce that our very first group has graduated from the free 6-week Falls Prevention Program! This amazing group—including Cheryl, Joan, and Trish—came together barely knowing each other and finished as friends, supporting each other through a tailored exercise program and educational sessions led by knowledgeable instructor Jess at Xcel Fitness Devonport.

If you or someone you know would like to join our next Falls Prevention Program, new groups are starting soon!

🚶‍♂️Programs are running in Burnie, Devonport, Smithton, Ulverstone and Wynyard. The next groups to start are:
📍 Devonport: Wednesday 8th October
📍 Burnie: Tuesday 14th October
📍 Ulverstone: Tuesday 4th November

Our team has been out and about delivering the Advanced Preventative Care Program, St Lukes Private Postnatal Service and Falls Prevention Program, passing by some of Tasmania’s most stunning sights along the way. We’re proud to bring essential health services directly into homes and communities—sometimes with a view like this!

October is Health Literacy Month! 💡

What is Health Literacy? Health literacy is the ability to find, understand, and use information to make decisions about your health.

Why is Health Literacy Important? Health literacy is crucial because it affects your ability to:
🗺️ Navigate the healthcare system: This includes finding the right health services and filling out forms.
💬 Share personal information: This means having the skills to tell health providers about your health.
🧑‍⚕️ Engage in self-care: This means knowing how to take care of your own health and managing your conditions.
🎲 Understand concepts like probability and risk: This means understanding how likely something is to happen and making decisions based on that.

Many people struggle to get the right health information when they need it. This can lead to poorer health outcomes and more frequent use of health services.

What are the benefits? When we take the time to improve health literacy, we may support Tasmanians to:
🛡️ Prevent illness
🩺 Improve the management of illness
💊 Improve medication use
⏩ Speed up recovery after illness

At Salveo Healthcare, our nurses and health professionals are trained to make sure you understand your health and what you can do to feel better. There is never a silly question about your health. If you have a question, always ask us!

🌸 - Breathe easier in spring

Spring in Tasmania is beautiful, but it can be challenging for those with COPD, Asthma, and Allergic Rhinitis (hayfever). 🌿 Air pollution, pollen, and changing weather conditions can trigger symptoms and lead to exacerbations.

Stay proactive:
• Track pollen counts regularly. You can check the pollen count on the AirRater app
• Limit outdoor activities on high pollen days
• Keep your medications handy
• Maintain a clean indoor environment

Let's breathe easier this spring! 🌬️💪 Stay safe and enjoy the season!
