Coeliac Awareness Week

Coeliac disease is not just a food intolerance it is a autoimmune disorder which requires a strict gluten-free diet for life.
It affects approximately 1 in 70 Australians.

It is with great sadness that we announce Dr Shadi will be leaving Windmill Hill Medical on March 26th to move interstate with her family.

We have sincerely enjoyed having Dr Shadi become part of the Windmill family and she has been a joy to work with since day 1!

On behalf of the practice we wish her and her family all the best and hope that a return to Tasmania will be in their future ☺️

February is Heart Health Awareness Month ♥️

Heart Disease is one of the leading causes of death in Australia.
Did you know every 10 minutes 1 Australian suffers from a heart attack 🫀
Common Symptoms:

Getting regular Cervical screenings can detect any cervical changes and can protect you from cervical cancer.
From the age of 25-74 you are eligible for HPV testing. Testing is done every 5 years

Just a reminder we are closed from Tuesday the 23rd of December and returning on the 5th of January. If you require prescriptions please call the practice as soon as possible, otherwise we can not guarantee they will be filled.
During this time if your needing assistance please visit Urgent Care Launceston or Newstead Urgent Care.

With Christmas fast approaching make sure you are getting in to see your doctor. Appointments are filling up quick! 🎄

Script repeats can be requested via HotDocs as long as you have been in to see your doctor in the past 12 months

We will be closed from Tuesday 23rd of December and re-opening Monday 5th of January. 🗓️

At Windmill Hill Medical we remain committed to providing thorough, personal and high quality medical care.

To remain financially viable (pay staff, rent, electricity, insurance etc) we will remain a mixed billing practice. We bulk bill 50% of patients (care plans, health assessments, and immunisations). The rest pay a gap and cross-subsidise those who are bulk billed. The most common problems we see are complex chronic disease and mental health, which take time.

The government is removing mental health items from 01 November and have reduced the Medicare rebate for care plans since July this year.

If we bulk billed everyone and every appointment then we would have to move to a "6 minute medicine" model of rapid and low quality care and cut services.
It's called 'churn and burn’. That is not the type of medicine we practice or you deserve.

To maintain our high standards and personal care, our practice will not switch to universal bulk billing despite what the government is promising in the media.

We know that the cost of healthcare is a concern and we encourage you to contact your local Federal Member of Parliament to explain how these changes impact you. You can also ask your GP if you qualify for a care plan for complex chronic disease or use HotDocs online script request form for regular repeat prescriptions.

We suggest that the government should increase your Medicare rebate to reduce your out of pocket costs and stop cutting patient chronic disease and mental health rebates.
