How do you grow a 133kg pumpkin?

At the Tumut Show, NSW, growers from around the region put their biggest pumpkins forward in a friendly competition.

In this video, Mark Peacock chats with Campbells Fertilisers Australasia’s Bruce Scott about how his impressive, first-place-winning pumpkin came to life, with growth supported mostly with Campbell’s Rustica Plus compound fertiliser, supported by Diamond Blue soluble fertiliser.

From fruit set to show day, it took just 60 days of growth to reach 133.5kg, despite a difficult growing season.

Campbells Fertiliser Australasia was proud to sponsor the event by supplying a range of crop nutrition products as the 2nd place prize.

Second place went to first-time entrant, 14y/o student, Ethan Buckley! Paul Massey (Muirs Key Account Manager, Batlow) presented the prize on behalf of Muirs and Campbells. Well done Ethan!

After the event, as is local tradition, Paul’s winning pumpkin was paddled down Tumut river, with Adam “Commodore” Farquharson sitting on top. It’s final destination was River Brewing Co where it was used to brew beer.

A recent interview conducted by Campbells Fertiliser Australasia National Nutrition Agronomist, Bruce Scott.

Cotton crops are generally grown with big inputs of nitrogen from urea and large inputs of water. This crop, grown by Dan Harris near Finley has been grown with a specific diet of Campbells specialty fertilisers, including Nitro-P and Thio-K, with Calcium Nitrate providing the bulk of the nitrogen. Water inputs have been significantly reduced with the program.

Good for the budget, and great for the environment!
