This year’s World Breastfeeding Week theme: create sustainable support systems for breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding can be a meaningful part of recovery, but it often comes with physical and emotional challenges that deserve real support 💬💗

Breastfeeding helps reduce the environmental impact of formula production and packaging ♻️ But more important are the systems we build to support those who breastfeed — That means access to care, education, and safe spaces for those who breastfeed and compassionate, judgment-free support for those who can’t or choose not to.

More information on world breastfeeding week is available on the Australian Breastfeeding Association or the World Health Organization’s website.

During menstruation the pelvic floor muscles can tighten and become painful. Pelvic floor stretches can help to relax and open out the pelvic floor and hip muscles.

✔️Hold each stretch for 3-5 deep, slow breaths
✔️Let your tummy and pelvic floor relax and expand as you breathe in
✔️Discontinue any stretch that causes you pain

💡If you experience period pain, a pelvic floor physio may be able to help! 🫶

🤰 Emerging research continues to reinforce the importance of physiotherapist-guided abdominal and pelvic floor training during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

✅ Safe and effective abdominal exercises (including those targeting the re**us abdominis) do not worsen DRAM
✅ Strengthening the core and pelvic floor reduces lumbopelvic pain, supports labour outcomes, and improves postnatal recovery
✅ The early postpartum phase offers a unique window for effective rehabilitation due to increased collagen flexibility

A tailored program guided by a qualified women’s health physiotherapist ensures safe progression, symptom monitoring, and optimal recovery outcomes.

We’re here to support you — with expert care, encouragement, and a plan that’s right for your journey 💁‍♀️

It is recommended to wait until 12 weeks postpartum to return to running after giving birth. This is because the body goes through significant changes during childbirth and the early postpartum which may increase the risk of pelvic organ prolapse, injury to joints or muscles, worsened incontinence and chronic pain if returning to high intesnsity exercise too soon.

Improving the function of the pelvic floor, core, hip and leg strength can greatly reduce the risks of pelvic organ prolapse, injury to joints or muscles, worsened incontinence and chronic pain.
