This Women’s Health and Eating Disorder week, we are shining a spotlight on Health At Every Size (HAES) 💚

Mel, one of our wonderful clinicians at headspace Albury Wodonga, has worked passionately to educate local organisations and community members on the importance of implementing a HAES mindset. After speaking at international and local conferences, Mel thought it was time to explain to you all what HAES is! ✨

What is “Health at Every Size”?
It’s not about a number on the scale, it’s about treating your body with respect, no matter your size. HAES shifts you to care for yourself to live fully, without the focus of weight loss. At headspace Albury Wodonga, we promote inclusivity and a safe space where all bodies are welcome.

HAES means:
💪 Moving your body in ways that feel fun & doable (dance, sports, walking with friends, stretching, playing with a pet).
🥑 Eating in a way that fuels you, without labelling foods as “good” or “bad.”
🧠 Engage in overall healthy habits (like sleep, stress management, social connections, movement).
🙌 Accepting and respecting that bodies come in ALL shapes & sizes.

How you can live HAES in your own life:
•Speak kindly to yourself (and your body).
•Follow accounts that make you feel good and celebrate diverse bodies.
•Notice what your body can do (laugh, dance, hug someone) instead of only how it looks.
•Support others by not judging their food, body, or exercise choices.

Your worth isn’t defined by your weight. Your body deserves kindness and to be cared for. 💜

If you ever have concerns about your eating or body image and would like some support, you can reach out to:
•InsideOut Institute
•Butterfly Foundation
•Your GP
