The rules are the rules. It will hardly cover all of the support worker’s vehicle costs at the moment but it will certainly help!
Support work can involve a lot of travel, but that doesn’t mean it’s all unpaid!
Under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award, if you’re required (and allowed!) to use your own vehicle for work, you must be paid a $0.99 allowance for each kilometre that’s added to your odometer.
This includes travel involving duties like transporting laundry🧺, food 🍝 or medication 💊 for a client, and driving between locations during a period of work (like from one client to another).
Oh, and this travel counts as ✨ time worked ✨ so you should be paid your wages as well!
