This article provides a breakdown and timeline for the upcoming changes to the NDIS as we know it. This is all assuming that the legislation goes through and we don’t get a change of government at some point during the changes.

What’s happening and when? NDIS Minister Mark Butler announced a whole raft of changes at the Press Club last week. Some of these may soon come into effect, while others are planned to be progressively rolled out over the next few years. Sara developed this timeline to give you a picture of what t...

Some great advice here to help support someone who is struggling…..

When you’re struggling, even answering “What do you need?” can feel like another task.

Trying to think of the 'right' way for someone to support you can add pressure you don’t have capacity for. Specific suggestions take the mental load off the person who’s already carrying enough. Support becomes easier to accept when it doesn’t require extra energy.

The rules are the rules. It will hardly cover all of the support worker’s vehicle costs at the moment but it will certainly help!

Support work can involve a lot of travel, but that doesn’t mean it’s all unpaid!

Under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) Award, if you’re required (and allowed!) to use your own vehicle for work, you must be paid a $0.99 allowance for each kilometre that’s added to your odometer.

This includes travel involving duties like transporting laundry🧺, food 🍝 or medication 💊 for a client, and driving between locations during a period of work (like from one client to another).

Oh, and this travel counts as ✨ time worked ✨ so you should be paid your wages as well!

Let’s reduce the stigma around mental health each and every day.

Today, 1 October, marks the start of Mental Health Month, an opportunity to promote awareness and understanding of mental health, reduce stigma and encourage open conversations about mental wellbeing.

It’s also the start of the final countdown to World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

This year’s theme is Connect with your community.

🚨 Good providers are the backbone of the NDIS, don’t let the system break them.

Support Coordinators are walking away. Not because they want to, but because the funding just doesn’t stack up anymore. When that happens, people with disability are left without the help they rely on!

The NDIA hasn’t lifted hourly rates for Support Coordination in 7 years.

Providers can’t survive like this, and without Support Coordinators, people with complex needs will be left without support. If that happens, the whole NDIS risks collapse.

This petition calls on the House to:

✔️ Independently scrutinise the data around Support Coordination

✔️ Raise hourly rates so providers remain viable

✔️ Recognise Support Coordinators as critical to the NDIS

✔️ Ensure sustainable funding so we can keep delivering high-quality care

We’ve got until 24 September. Every signature counts.

We are coming up to our 4th anniversary as a registered provider of support coordination. With the constant changes, that feels like something to celebrate! 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈

It’s a scary time for all. Hopefully the NDIS will reconsider.
