Coronavirus (COVID-19) update for bodyguards and crowd controllers licensees
The coronavirus pandemic is a rapidly evolving situation, which we know is creating a huge amount of uncertainty for Queenslanders.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is committed to assisting the security industry and licensees where we can during these uncertain times.

The OFT is aware that Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) may not be able to provide face-to-face training due to the current social distancing requirements for COVID-19, making it impossible for security licensees to complete their ongoing training.

The OFT will be providing a grace period of 12 months for all renewal training required between 1 March 2020 and 30 September 2020.

This means that if, for example, your ongoing training falls due on 1 June 2020, it would now be due on 1 June 2021.

Sad, Sad news 😢 COVID-19 situation is affecting us all...

As you are all aware at midday today the following types of venues will be forced to shut Australia-wide, in a drastic effort to combat the coronavirus.
• Licensed parts of hotels
• Licensed pubs and clubs
• Casinos
• Cinemas and other places of entertainment
• Indoor sport facilities
• Gyms (24/7 access will be allowed until 12noon where all members will be required to leave the premises IAW state/federal orders)
• Dine-in restaurants and cafes (cafés and restaurants will stay open for takeaway and delivery)
• Places of worship

This certainly affects a lot of peoples future and as an independent family business and this is a hard blow.

Stay safe and healthy

Business as Usual

We understand there is considerable concern in the community regarding coronavirus (COVID-19).

At RSTA we are operating a business-as-usual approach. In the security industry we all deal with people on a daily basis, so make sure you are adhering to all relevant health guidelines and advice.

The situation is continually evolving and we are doing our utmost to achieve the best outcomes for our clients and staff whilst making decisions based on information from reliable sources such as the Queensland and Commonwealth departments of health.

Changes coming will effect you - new Security Providers Act 1993 training packages.

You will be aware, as the holder of a crowd controller or bodyguard licence, you are required to complete ongoing training units every three years to ensure you remain current with the latest industry standards and techniques.

Details of the ongoing training units, and their due dates for completion, were listed on the notice sent to you by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) when your licence was last issued or renewed.

However, after extensive reviews and consultations, a new training package has been approved by the Australian Industry Skills Committee. In Queensland this new training package commences today, 21 January 2020.

This means your ongoing training units have changed to:
• CPPSEC3101 Manage conflict and security risks using negotiation
• CPPSEC3121 Control persons using empty hand techniques
• HLTAID006 Provide advanced first aid.
If you start your ongoing training after 21 January 2020, you must complete the new units listed above.

If you have recently completed your ongoing training by 21 January 2020, using the units listed in the last notice we sent to you, we will accept those previously approved modules.

There is no change to the dates these are due for completion. The dates remain the same as stated on the notice we sent to you when your licence was last issued or renewed.

The OFT understands that some licencees may not be able to smoothly transition to these new ongoing training modules on the change-over date. If this is the case for you please contact us to discuss your situation as each matter will be considered on a case by case basis.

If you need more information about this or would like to discuss your particular circumstances please contact the OFT’s Industry Licensing Unit on telephone (07) 3738 8705, or by email industry.licensing@justice.qld.gov.au.

More information and details of the training modules can also be found on our website www.qld.gov.au/fairtrading.
