Let's try and explain the new fees and charges coming in on 1st November 2025.

✨What is a hotelling contribution in aged care?

It is the daily fee that helps cover the everyday living costs in a residential aged care home - things like meals, cleaning, laundry, electricity and other shared services.

The Australian Government sets the maximum that aged care homes can charge.

Your contribution is determined by your specific income and assets, with a maximum daily cap of $12.55 per day.

If you are confused and don't know where to start - reach out via 0477 468 845.

📢 Aged Care Update – MPIR Change

From 1 October 2025, the Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (MPIR) for residential aged care will decrease to 7.61%.

💡 What does this mean?
The MPIR is the government-set interest rate that aged care facilities use to work out the Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP). The DAP is the regular, non-refundable payment for a room when it isn’t paid upfront as a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD).

This change may affect how much you or your loved ones pay if you choose the DAP option for accommodation.

If you’d like to understand what this means for your situation, feel free to reach out for more information or advice 💕

"Do not work in a nursing home if you aren’t going to be nice to the residents. It’s not a workplace; it’s their home!"

Some workplaces are more than just a place to earn a living; they are sacred spaces in people's lives. For those who choose to work in a nursing home, this isn't just a job—it's a profound responsibility to a vulnerable community.

The residents aren't just patients or tasks on a to-do list; they are individuals in the final chapters of their lives, and this is their home. It is where their memories, their quiet moments, and their final days unfold.

To enter that space with anything less than genuine kindness and respect is to violate a trust. The work is not about efficient task completion, but about the quality of human connection. It's about a warm smile, a gentle hand, and a listening ear.

A caregiver’s role is to bring light and dignity into the lives of others, and in doing so, they not only enrich the residents' lives but also find a deeper sense of purpose in their own.

WA’s “Time to Think” Program Giving Seniors—and Hospitals—a Much-Needed Break!

Here’s a bit of good news out of WA’s aged care space: the “Time to Think” program is already showing great results since it launched earlier this year.

The idea is simple but smart—when an older person is medically ready to leave hospital but can’t go home safely (and there's no aged care place available yet), the program provides a short-term aged care bed where they can stay while planning their next steps.

Since launching in May, the program has:
✅ Supported over 100 older patients
✅ Saved more than 1,100 hospital bed days
✅ Expanded from 42 to 53 beds across Perth

This means less pressure on crowded emergency departments, fewer delays for others needing surgery or acute care, and—most importantly—dignity and breathing space for older people making a big life transition.

It’s not a silver bullet for the aged care crisis, but it’s a genuinely helpful step—and a reminder of what’s possible when aged care and hospitals work together.

Let’s hope this pilot becomes a permanent fixture. Our health system—and our elders—deserve nothing less.

Planning for Aged Care? Start with Services Australia!

If you're looking into aged care options, you'll need your "Aged Care Fees' letter from Services Australia or DVA.

Why do I need it?

From 1st November 2025, aged care facilities will be asking for this prior to admission.

Where do I start?

1️⃣ You can use the My Aged Care Fee Estimator – this gives you an idea of what aged care might cost based on your financial situation.

2️⃣ Getting a formal assessment – Services Australia or DVA will need to assess your income and assets to work out how much you’ll actually pay and generate a formal letter for you.

If you're planning on aged care in the coming months, it's a small step that can save you time and stress down the road.

If you have no idea where to start and need some guidance, reach out via 0477 468 845.

See you soon ✨
