Marcelle has been a dedicated part of the Magnolia family since 2005. With 19 years of experience, her passion for her role remains as vibrant as ever. “I truly love what I do, and after all these years, I still feel excited every time I walk into our Home and see the residents,” Marcelle shares.

Marcelle understands that continuity is essential, especially in dementia care. Familiar faces bring comfort and a sense of security to residents who may feel confused or unsettled. “Having consistency in our team helps residents feel more at ease, especially on days when they may not recognise everyone around them,” she notes. Her commitment to building trust and familiarity is a cornerstone of the compassionate environment at Regis Magnolia.

Our Holland Park residents recently enjoyed a delightful morning of tea and coffee at the Mount Gravatt Lookout Point, where they took in the stunning views of Brisbane City. Elizabeth, one of our residents, expressed her joy, saying, “I came here such a long time ago, and it feels so good to be back.” Barbara echoed this sentiment, sharing, “It feels wonderful to be out here; it’s so peaceful.”

With enthusiasm, our residents identified iconic city landmarks like the Story Bridge, adding a sense of connection to their outing. They also explored a charming shop filled with unique finds, from earrings to coffee mugs and candles. As many of our employees, residents and clients light up their homes and hearts in celebration of Diwali today, we have also enjoyed celebrations across Regis this week.

At Regis, we recognise that our diversity makes us a stronger organisation, and Diwali is a wonderful reminder of the beauty in our differences and the strength in our unity.

May this festival of lights bring happiness and success to everyone. Let's celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil together. Happy Diwali!

At Regis, we always seek opportunities for our residents to stay connected with the community and make new friends. This week, our residents from Regis Birkdale ventured to Regis Bulimba to join in a lively social group activity – an outdoor water gun colouring game! With coloured water and white shirts as their canvases, residents had a blast as they aimed, fired and created colourful designs together.

Christine, who won the first round, shared, “I never expected it to be so much fun! I felt like I won gold in the Olympics.” Meanwhile, Maureen loved making new friends, saying it was a “delightful” experience. The morning wrapped up with a morning tea, filled with laughter and conversation.

Residents and employees at Regis Sandgate Musgrave recently celebrated the Hindu festival of Dashain/Dusserha with a wonderful event in the Home.

Clinical Care Manager, Tshering, presented on the significance of Dashain, which is a celebration of the victory of good over evil.

Residents enjoyed traditional dishes, such as kebabs and cakes prepared by the Regis Lifestyle team, as well as dancing and a demonstration of how blessings are given by elders to younger generations.

“It is really good to have an event like this. We learn about the employees’ culture and it’s very interesting. I enjoyed the dancing too,” said resident Paul.

Resident Tom said, “Today was marvellous. I am happy to be able to attend this event and be part of it. The food was beautiful too.”

World Food Day is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the unique nutritional needs of older adults. At Regis, we know that good food and proper nutrition are essential for maintaining health, preventing chronic diseases, and enhancing the quality-of-life of older people.

In line with World Food Day, we are excited to announce the launch of our new food menus at the end of October! These menus will celebrate the rich cultural diversity within our Homes, featuring many dishes inspired by treasured family recipes passed down through generations.

Working closely with our residents to create meals that reflect their cultural heritage is incredibly important to us. We know that food has a magical way of bringing people together, and it’s often the memories and stories behind the food that bring the most joy.

Join us in celebrating the power of good food and the rich tapestry of cultures that make our community so special!

Good food, good wine, good friends and good times! Our four Homes in South Australia recently came together to venture out to the Grünthal microbrewery. The brewery hosted our residents and ensured they sampled some of the finest craft beer, artisan cheese and local wine the region has to offer. This group outing proved to be the perfect afternoon set in the beautiful Adelaide Hills overlooking the Onkaparinga River.

Activities like these are designed to support residents to continue to live interesting, connected and fulfilled lives where they can continue to gain new experiences and engage with each other.

Mary and Neil Affleck, residents of Regis Blackburn since 2021, recently celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary on October 9th. Neil, who will turn 101 in November, and Mary, 95, are a testament to enduring love and commitment.

Their love story began at a petrol station where Mary worked, and Neil frequently refueled his family’s trucks. They married in 1948 at St Mark’s in Collingwood, with a reception in the church hall.

When asked for advice for young couples, Neil humorously said, “Don’t get married,” while Mary countered with, “Do get married.” Their secret to a long, happy marriage? Shared interests and mutual respect, including a love of the Collingwood football club and the horse races.

At Regis Blackburn, they find joy in simply being together, with Neil taking pleasure in pushing Mary in her wheelchair each day.

All at Regis Blackburn were delighted to celebrate this milestone with Mary, Neil, and their family. Congratulations to you both!

It was all about creativity and laughter at Regis Sandgate Lucinda as residents embraced ‘Speak Like A Pirate Day’. Our art group kicked off the celebrations with some wonderfully colourful pirate paintings—each one unique and full of personality.

Joe and Graham from our Lifestyle team then took things up a notch with a fun-filled scavenger hunt. Val said the scavenger hunt was a fun challenge with lots of laughter and friendly banter.

The highlight of the day? Resident Lennie, who discovered his newfound love for painting, said, “I’ve never painted before in my life, but now I love it. I'll try to never miss painting lessons.”

Celebrating Intergenerational Connections on International Day of Older Persons!
We are thrilled to announce a new pilot program in partnership with the LifeChanger Foundation, aimed at fostering meaningful connections between youth and older Australians. Learn more about the pilot program: https://bit.ly/3XZvqL7

This six-week program, which builds on Regis’ longstanding intergenerational initiatives, will pair students from a local high school in Meadowbrook, Queensland and residents at Regis’ Salisbury Home and is focused on strengthening intergenerational bonds.

With life expectancy now exceeding 75 years in half of the world’s countries and older persons projected to outnumber youth globally by 2030, creating opportunities for intergenerational connection is more important than ever.

Join us in celebrating the United Nations International Day of Older Persons and supporting initiatives that bring generations together for a brighter, more inclusive future.
