We often start a new year full of good intentions or New Year resolutions, only to find that it doesn’t last beyond January! Here is a great article on how to make the changes - and keep them going.

It’s one thing to start some new type of life-enhancing behaviour; it’s another thing to keep it going.

It has been a tough year so far for many people and the pressure on families in particular has been enormous. Great to see initiatives like this one that encourage businesses to help families achieve a better work/life balance.

PANDA joined Parents at Work, Karitane and UNICEF Australia to highlight the important need for the business community to understand and respond to the real challenges facing working families through the COVID-19 crisis and beyond. As the national peak lead body organisation supporting and representing expecting and new parents across Australia to recover from perinatal anxiety and depression, we understand the critical importance of supporting those on the journey to becoming parents to thrive and mind their mental health. We are encouraging businesses to support their staff by getting on board and downloading the Family Friendly Workplace recommendations and implementing them within their workplace.

As we all try to manage the coronavirus situation that is so rapidly evolving, as well as try to get our heads around the realities of self-isolation, this is a great resource for all of us on how to look after our mental health.

We've updated our dedicated information page about mental health and the coronavirus (COVID-19). At bb.org.au/33e5eOL, you can find information about how to look after yourself and others during periods of self-isolation, as well as practical tips and advice about managing feelings of uncertainty, stress and anxiety. Although an important measure, self-isolation may cause feelings of loneliness so it can help to stay connected with friends, family and colleagues through any methods available to you.

Another way to ensure you're looking after your mental health during periods of isolation is by connecting with others via the Beyond Blue online forums. Our dedicated ‘Coping with coronavirus’ thread is a safe place where anyone can share how they're feeling and offer support to those affected: bb.org.au/33cNdQU

If you’re feeling distressed or overwhelmed, our mental health professionals are available 24/7 at the Beyond Blue Support Service on 1300 22 4636 or at beyondblue.org.au/getsupport for online chat (3pm-12am AEST) and email (responses within 24 hours).

For immediate support call Lifeline on 13 11 14 and in an emergency, always call triple zero (000).

If you have ever considered seeing a psychologist you have probably come across cognitive behavioural therapy or "CBT".

Here is a great article explaining a bit more about this therapeutic technique we use here at Dr. Margaret Tadros Clinical Psychology.

CBT aims to uncover unhelpful or problematic ways of thinking in order to change unwanted or unhealthy behaviors.
