Be honest… where are you holding the most tension right now? 🤔

Some people hear “relaxation massage” and think candles and spa music.

But here is what is actually happening:

• Heart rate slows
• Breathing deepens
• Muscle guarding decreases
• Blood pressure often drops

That is measurable physiological change.

Calming the nervous system is not a luxury. It is maintenance.

Your Glutes Might Be Causing Your Lower Back Pain

Your glutes are the largest and strongest muscles in your body.

They’re designed to power movement — walking, lifting, climbing stairs.

But when we sit for long periods, they switch off.

When glutes don’t activate properly:
• The lower back compensates
• Hip flexors tighten
• Core stability weakens
• Pain develops

This is called “glute inhibition.”

Massage helps release the tight muscles that are pulling on your lower back — but we also need to wake the glutes back up.

Lower back pain isn’t always about the back.

Sometimes it’s about what isn’t doing its job.

Lower Back Pain – It’s Not Always What You Think

Lower back pain is one of the most common reasons people book a massage — but the lower back is often the victim, not the cause.

💡 In many cases, the real issue is muscle imbalance.

When certain muscles are tight (like hip flexors and lower back muscles) and others are weak (like glutes and deep core muscles), the body compensates. Over time this creates strain through the lumbar spine.

Common contributors:
• Tight hip flexors from prolonged sitting
• Weak glutes that aren’t activating properly
• Poor core stability
• Hamstring tension
• Repetitive bending or lifting incorrectly

Then we add daily habits:
– Lifting with a rounded back
– Twisting while carrying weight
– Sitting for long periods
– Poor posture

All of this builds pressure through the lower spine.

✔️ Proper lifting technique matters:
• Bend at the hips and knees
• Keep the load close to your body
• Engage your core
• Avoid twisting while carrying

Massage helps by:
• Reducing muscle tension
• Improving circulation
• Assisting with mobility
• Allowing overworked muscles to switch off

But long-term change comes from addressing the imbalance — not just treating the pain.

If your lower back keeps flaring up, it may be time to look deeper at what your body is compensating for.

Most lower back pain isn’t caused by the spine itself — it’s caused by muscle imbalance.

Tight hip flexors.

Too much sitting.

Your lower back ends up doing work it shouldn’t be doing.

Massage helps relieve tension, but long-term change comes from correcting the imbalance.
