It's officially Jean Hailes for Women's Health Women's Health Week. 💙

At Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital, we're celebrating the people who make a difference every day in women's health. Midwifery Nurse Educators Tegan and Leila are nurturing the next generation of midwives, helping women feel supported, informed, and empowered through every step of their care.

Reflecting on their work, Tegan shared: "Being a midwife isn't just what I do, it's who I am. Over the years, I've had the honour of supporting women and their families through some of life's most intimate and transformative moments. I'm deeply passionate about women's health, advocacy, and woman-centred care; ensuring every woman feels empowered, respected, and truly cared for in a way that honours her choices, voice, and individual journey."

Leila added: "Women's health matters to me as women have historically (and continue to be – although it is improving!) been excluded from research and improvement around our health. Women continue to experience medical discrimination and bias from healthcare providers, and our work as midwives and strong advocates is as important as ever. I love working with women because we are magic! What women's bodies can do amazes me every day. We are so strong. Working with women and being part of the birth experience never gets old."

Thank you to everyone who plays a role in supporting and advancing women's health across our communities. Visit our website to learn more about how Tegan and Leila are empowering future midwives: https://ow.ly/oSpE50WOTVi

Friday morning at Calvary looked a little brighter than usual.
Along the hallways and wards, purple hats, ribbons, and socks appeared—each one a small but powerful symbol of support. Staff and volunteers had searched their drawers for splashes of purple.

The celebration wasn’t just about colour—it was about sending a message.
By proudly wearing purple, the Calvary Tasmania community, together with the Staff Inclusion Working Group, showed patients, consumers, colleagues, and visitors that everyone is welcome.

It was a day to stand up for inclusion, to honour the spirit of diversity, and to let the LGBTQIA+ community know: you belong here.

Yesterday we celebrated one year since Calvary Lenah Valley's Emergency Department returned to full-time service in partnership with Care 24-7 Emergency Specialists. What a year it's been!

Since reopening, our Emergency Department has treated nearly 10,000 patients, with around 2,500 admissions. Weekend demand remains high, with 20–35 presentations each day, and with Care 24-7, we've delivered timely, compassionate, and clinically excellent care all year round.

This week, Calvary St John’s Hospital marked a special milestone with the official opening of Kunanyi Terrace, Tasmania’s first outdoor hospital rehabilitation and therapy space.

The event began with the first-ever smoking ceremony at St John’s, followed by a Welcome to Country, to celebrate this innovative new facility. Guests included our Acting National CEO, Kerryn Vine-Camp, alongside staff, patients, and community members.

Kunanyi Terrace offers recovering patients the chance to rebuild strength and independence in the fresh Tasmanian air, whether it’s walking the mobility circuit, tending to the garden beds, or enjoying the sunshine and views of kunanyi / Mt Wellington. We’re proud to keep innovating for the health and wellbeing of our community.

Here are the Calvary Hobart Supply Team wearing donated beanies on a 4° Hobart morning! Not pictured is Mt Wellington/Kunanyi covered in snow and mist, with visibility being only a few hundred metres. Everyone was freezing so they are smiling through gritted teeth. ❄️🏥

The individually hand knitted beanies were among 400 donated by National Pies and sent all the way from NSW for patients and staff.
They were knitted for the National Pies community benefit projects by the Karabi Seniors Knitting Group based in Wentworthville, NSW.

A member of the National Pies team had a family member who knitted beanies for the Gibson unit at St John’s Hospital, for many years.
