At Calvary Hobart, we’re proud to have pioneered robotic surgery in Tasmania.

Since introducing the Da Vinci surgical system in 2019, our specialists have performed nearly 900 minimally-invasive surgeries in gynaecology and urology, including treatment for endometriosis, hysterectomies, prostatectomies and nephrectomies. Robotic surgery provides an advancement in techniques to perform more challenging procedures, along with greater clinical outcomes for patients.

In 2020, we expanded our program with the ROSA robotic platform, supporting precision in orthopaedic procedures such as knee replacements.

Our surgeons have seen first-hand how robotics enhances surgical precision, reduces recovery times, and delivers better outcomes for Tasmanian patients.
Robotic surgery at Calvary has become a highly successful program, delivering innovation, accuracy and compassionate care to our community.

It's officially Jean Hailes for Women's Health Women's Health Week. đź’™

At Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital, we're celebrating the people who make a difference every day in women's health. Midwifery Nurse Educators Tegan and Leila are nurturing the next generation of midwives, helping women feel supported, informed, and empowered through every step of their care.

Reflecting on their work, Tegan shared: "Being a midwife isn't just what I do, it's who I am. Over the years, I've had the honour of supporting women and their families through some of life's most intimate and transformative moments. I'm deeply passionate about women's health, advocacy, and woman-centred care; ensuring every woman feels empowered, respected, and truly cared for in a way that honours her choices, voice, and individual journey."

Leila added: "Women's health matters to me as women have historically (and continue to be – although it is improving!) been excluded from research and improvement around our health. Women continue to experience medical discrimination and bias from healthcare providers, and our work as midwives and strong advocates is as important as ever. I love working with women because we are magic! What women's bodies can do amazes me every day. We are so strong. Working with women and being part of the birth experience never gets old."

Thank you to everyone who plays a role in supporting and advancing women's health across our communities. Visit our website to learn more about how Tegan and Leila are empowering future midwives: https://ow.ly/oSpE50WOTVi

What brings the greatest joy to our maternity team, and what excites us most about the future?

For Imogen, it’s both guiding and supporting her colleagues as a Clinical Midwifery Facilitator, and the excitement of helping create something new and great – a maternity space where families and staff can truly thrive.

For Dani, it’s the privilege of being part of life’s most precious beginnings as a Student Midwife. Together, their stories reflect the heart of Calvary’s Maternity Suite: care, comfort, and joy in every moment.

At Calvary, every step forward is about creating better experiences for mums, babies, and our team. Are you ready to take the next step in your midwifery journey in a place where passion meets purpose?

Friday morning at Calvary looked a little brighter than usual.
Along the hallways and wards, purple hats, ribbons, and socks appeared—each one a small but powerful symbol of support. Staff and volunteers had searched their drawers for splashes of purple.

The celebration wasn’t just about colour—it was about sending a message.
By proudly wearing purple, the Calvary Tasmania community, together with the Staff Inclusion Working Group, showed patients, consumers, colleagues, and visitors that everyone is welcome.

It was a day to stand up for inclusion, to honour the spirit of diversity, and to let the LGBTQIA+ community know: you belong here.

Celebrating 60 Years of Lifelong Friendship and Care

Congratulations to Suzanne Bruce and her dearest friends Anne, Gail, and Mary, who are celebrating an extraordinary milestone — 60 years since graduating from nursing school together.

To mark the occasion, Suzanne hosted a joyful celebration filled with laughter, storytelling, and treasured memories. Fittingly, the gathering took place at St John’s Hospital — the very place where their nursing journey began, and where Suzanne is now regaining strength following recent surgery.

In a touching nod to the past, Suzanne’s family borrowed a vintage St John’s nursing cape and cap from the Calvary Archive, bringing a heartfelt sense of history to the day.

What a remarkable legacy of friendship, compassion, and resilience. Here’s to six decades of shared history, to the good times, and to friendships that truly stand the test of time.
