We regulate disability workers who provide services to people with disability in Victoria. Our role is to minimise harm, improve the quality of disability services, and support people with disability to choose safe, high-quality workers.

We do this by:

• Regulating both registered and unregistered disability workers
• Offering and promoting a voluntary registration scheme designed to lift workforce standards and recognise registered disability workers
• Encouraging, assessing, and managing complaints, referrals, and mandatory notifications about disability worker conduct
• Monitoring and enforcing compliance with mandatory standards, registration requirements, and practice standards for workers
• Maintaining and strengthening relationships with co-regulators, regulatory partners, and service users
• Through these activities, we aim to ensure people with disability have confidence in the workers who support them.

🔥 Prevent Detect Escape - Home Fire Safety For People At Higher Risk 🔥

The CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Fire Rescue Victoria have seen a recent spike in home fires. 👨‍🚒

62% of people who die in preventable home fires have a disability, and 36% are aged 65 or older. 👵

One of the ways to reduce home fire fatalities and injuries is for disability and aged care service providers of in-home care, carers and individuals to work together.

A free 40-minute e-learning module called ‘Prevent Detect Escape Home Fire Safety For People At Higher Risk’ is designed to help identify home fire risks, and how to manage them.

The free e-learning module has been co-created with people who have a disability, service providers, the Country Fire Authority and Fire Rescue Victoria, and other key partners, and it is available to anyone in the local community.

The referral pathways in the course provide support for behaviours such as hoarding, smoking inside, or the inability to self-evacuate.

The pathways link individuals, service providers and our local fire services to work on shared strategies and solutions together. 🚒

Over 6500 people have completed the course over the past three years, and feedback received from over 2,500 people, show that 91% of people feel confident to apply what they learnt and 90% feel it was worth their time.

People who have done the course have said:
🧑‍🦯 “I love the way the course is simplified for everyone to learn”
🧑‍🦼 “I found the structure easy to follow: Prevent, Detect, Escape – it makes the message memorable.”
🧑‍🦽 “The videos and examples helped me understand real risks and how to act in case of fire.”

🎥 Check out Jeanette’s story, which is a short video explaining why this e-learning module is important for people living with a disability: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0OKOJjjLHw

Please jump online yourself, or share with your networks, to find out what you could be doing to improve your home fire safety. 🧯

🎬 Casting Call!

We're on the lookout to fill x2 lead roles for an upcoming short film in Melbourne/Naarm, shooting in August 2025.

The film follows Constantine, an ageing Greek mechanic and his forthright younger niece Athea, who must work together to fix more than just a faulty radiator when intergenerational differences threaten to erupt inside their family owned motor repair shop in Coburg.

This short film is being developed in collaboration with Bus Stop Film's Accessible Filmmaking Program. As part of the program, our workshop leaders have been guiding 12 emerging filmmakers with intellectual disabilities through the process of script development and production. This film represents their end-of-year project and a culmination of their creative journey.

Characters:
1. Constantine - Greek Australian male, 50s-70s. Stubborn, knowledgable and a self-proclaimed mentor.
*Please note: applicants must be competent Greek speakers.

2. Athea - Greek/Mediterranean background preferred, 17-30, female. Outspoken, resilient and a little impulsive.
*Please note: Athea's character represents a form of non-visible disability. We're aiming for authentic and sensitive casting that reflects lived experience. If you do not have ASD, please refrain from applying.

These are collaborative roles where participants will have the opportunity to work with the director to shape their characters ahead of production. No previous acting experience necessary. Character briefs flexible for the right person. No applicant left unconsidered.

Applications close on the 19th of July 2025.
