The taboo of loneliness! I have been pondering this recently. The shame that people feel when they share they are lonely, the often uncomfortable feelings others have when they hear someone else share with them that they are lonely. How quick people are to offer others solutions.

It's somehow seen as a weakness. Like somehow you are not strong enough.

I just want to encourage anyone that is struggling with loneliness that it says something truly special about you.
It could says you loved deeply and to lose that has left a big hole. What a beautiful soul you are to love so much and so wholeheartedly that the loss of that can never be quickly washed over.
It could say say that you yearn for deeper connections with others and what a gift that will be to the people who you will get to connect with. It could say that I long to be really seen and to really see others
it could say I made some mistakes and have some regrets and I'm sad about them. What a place of growth that is.
It could say there is some deep hurt and betrayal that I need to heal from and what a journey that could be.

None of this is easy. Its incredibly painful. But in all of this see that your heart is not hardened. We don't talk much about hearts oftenn but to have a soft heart in a hard world says something incredibly special about you.

Listen to your heart, be discerning in who you share with and recognise there is no shame in loneliness. Honor your soft and open heart today💗

We throw out food that we can no longer eat, clothes we no longer like, exercise equipment we no longer use...

Yet we allow beliefs/thoughts that others have put on us or we have taken on occupy our mind without thought to whether or not they are serving us well.

So important for these to be challenged, re looked at and if needed thrown away.

I love a beautiful garden...all the diffrent shades of green with beautiful natural plants and bright colours. It's a treat for every sense. But unlike most of my MGA colleagues, I have no gardening skills.

Recently a friend who is an avid gardener came to my home. I was pointing out something in my garden and proudly saying how beautiful it was even if I had no idea where it came from!! She laughed kindly and said "that's because it's a w**d". It took me a while to accept it as I pointed out its beauty and what it added to my garden.

Today as I accepted it was a w**d and went about removing it from my garden,I couldn't help draw the analogy with people. It's not so easy to identify those who will not be healthy to our lives. Like the w**ds they often appear Beautiful and they carry things which add to our lives. It's not until they are more entrenched in our lives does the unhealthy and sometimes toxic and highly damaging come out.

In my work with people coming out of abusive or damaging relationships, I am often struck by what warm, kind, open, caring and amazing people they are. I love the journey of helping them to not only identify what they have been through, recover and strengthen but to most importantly shine, see their value and live their best lives.

There are many quiet hero's in my Counselling rooms and I honor them today .

She sat at the back and they said she was
shy
She led from the front and they hated her
pride
They asked her advice and then questioned her guidance
They branded her loud then were shocked by her silence

When she shared no ambition, they said it was
sad
So she told them her dreams and they said she was mad
They told her they’d listen then covered their
ears
And gave her a hug whilst they laughed at her
fears

And she listened to all of it thinking she
should
Be the girl they told her to be best as she
could
But one day she asked what was best for
herself
Instead of trying to please everyone
else

So she walked to the forest and stood with the
trees
She heard the wind whisper and dance with the leaves
And she spoke to the willow, the elm and the
pine
And she told them what she’d been told time after time

She told them she felt she was never enough
She was either too little or far, far too much
Too loud or too quiet, too fierce or too weak
Too wise or too foolish, too bold or too meek

Then she found a small clearing surrounded by
firs
And she stopped and she heard what the trees said to her
And she sat there for hours not wanting to
leave
For the forest said nothing, it just let her

breathe

One of the things I enjoy in my role such a lot is gently challenging the beliefs and expectations that have been put on us by our family, schools and workplaces, society and ourselves. It's wonderful to see the freedom and release that comes when we can let go of things that are holding us back.

Please be kind to yourself, allow yourself to feel all you need to but at the same time reach out to friends and for extra support if need to. Please know you are cared for, seen and valued and take extra care of yourself at this time.

I love a messy therapy room. This was after working with an amazing primary schooler who loves art. Today we worked with clay, wrote on rocks, drew pictures and affirmations, coloured in, used figurines and together came up with a box full of strategies for managing anxiety.

I read this quote in a book I was reading recently and have been pondering it both in my own life and in the lives of my clients. When the stimulus is hard/painful/something we would never choose, that space can be frightening overwhelming and if we are honest something we want to avoid. As we are allowed to process and feel all that comes with that, we can begin to see it can also be our greatest growth, hope and opportunity.
