What a truly special ANZAC Day at Tudor Village ❤️
This year’s commemoration marked a significant milestone - the 10th anniversary of this much-loved village tradition - and it was our largest gathering yet, with more than 180 residents plus guests from Legacy filling the community centre. Every seat was taken, each thoughtfully adorned with a sprig of rosemary, creating a moving and respectful atmosphere.
The ceremony began with a heartfelt reading of A Tribute to ANZAC Day, followed by the lowering of the flag to half-mast and a warm welcome to all in attendance.
Our talented Tudor Village choir led a stirring rendition of Advance Australia Fair, setting the tone for a ceremony filled with reflection and gratitude. Residents shared readings including the ANZAC Requiem, In Flanders Fields and the Ode, honouring both our Tudor Legacy Ladies and ex-service personnel, as well as those we have lost.
A particularly moving moment came as wreaths were laid at the flagpole while the choir performed Song of Peace, followed by the bugler’s powerful rendition of the Last Post. A minute’s silence was observed before the flag was raised once more and Rouse sounded. The ceremony concluded with I Am Australian and a heartfelt recitation of We're All Australians Now.
Afterwards, guests and residents gathered to share light refreshments and traditional ANZAC biscuits.
Some highlights from the day:
• Our biggest turnout ever
• The stunning poppy display surrounding the centre
• Our volunteer pianist and bugler
• And, as always, the deeply emotional moment of the Last Post, which brought many to tears
A sincere thank you to everyone who played a part in making this year’s commemoration so meaningful. Lest we forget 🌺

Creativity has been flowing at Tudor Village 🎨✨
Our residents have been embracing their artistic side through a four-week Beginners Watercolour course, building both skill and confidence along the way. Led by talented artist Donna Legg - artist-in-residence at Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead in Wandin North -the classes offered a wonderful opportunity to learn from an experienced wildlife and botanical painter. Donna Legg Art
From learning about paper and paints to exploring colour theory, textures and tonal values, residents have developed a strong foundation in watercolour techniques. Even more special has been watching each participant grow in confidence and discover their own unique artistic style 💛
The course has culminated in beautiful birdlife studies, each piece reflecting creativity, patience and personal expression.
We’re delighted that these artworks will be showcased at the Tudor Village Residents Showcase at the end of May - celebrating the incredible talent within our community.

🥀 ANZAC Day is a time of reflection, but there are some lesser-known stories behind the traditions we honour today.

The very first ANZAC Day march in 1916 took place in London, where thousands of Australian and New Zealand soldiers marched through the streets while still in the middle of the war. These photographs are from that march, showing our Australian and New Zealand servicemen.

The tradition of eating ANZAC biscuits also has its origins in practicality. They were made without eggs so they wouldn’t spoil on the long journey overseas, sent by families to soldiers serving abroad.

You might also notice that “ANZAC” is always written in capital letters. It’s one of the few words in Australia that is legally protected, recognising the significance of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

ANZAC Day is a time to honour the courage, sacrifice and service of Australian and New Zealand men and women who have served our countries. We remember them with gratitude and respect. Lest we forget.

Recent rain and cooler weather at Tudor Village has created the perfect environment for some pretty cheeky visitors!

Our resident Galahs have been out in full force, making the most of the fresh feeding grounds around Tudor Village - and honestly, they fit right in with village life!

Part of the cockatoo family, these clever birds mainly snack on seeds and grains they find on the ground. You’ll often spot them in lively flocks across grasslands, woodlands, and even urban spaces.

Fun fact: Galahs are devoted partners, mating for life 💕
Males put on quite the show to impress - strutting, bobbing, waving their heads, raising their crest, and even clicking their bills while making soft calls.

Keep an eye out next time you’re around and you might catch them busily strutting around enjoying their Galah-lifestyles at Tudor Village!

As we get older, staying socially connected becomes more important than ever. Around 1 in 4 older Australians experience social isolation, which impacts both mental and physical health. Strong social connections can reduce the risk of depression, improve overall wellbeing, and are even linked to longer life expectancy.

At Tudor Village, connection happens in a very natural way. It might be a shared BBQ, a quick chat on a morning walk, or simply knowing there are familiar faces nearby. These everyday interactions help create a sense of belonging that many people don’t realise they’ve been missing.

It’s always on your terms. You can be as social as you like, when you feel like it, while still enjoying your own space and independence..
