Really looking forward to gathering this evening to cultivate some Active Hope in a community of practice. Brene Brown in her research found that hope is a thinking process that can be cultivated. Joanna Macy from understood that we need community spaces to allow our grief for what is happening in the world in order to cultivate hope. For our first gathering we’re going to be writing /creating a love letter to Mother Earth with sentence starters from the Active Hope Spiral inspired by my friend Alice🙏🏼😊🌱 I found these beautiful prayer flags of gratitude and hope in Lenah Valley recently, such a great thing to do, eapecially watching the plants begin to burst forth with new life 🙏🏼🌱😊

And just like that Spring has Sprung! Wintering can feel like we’re on pause, resting in the dark, tending to our roots, waiting- this winter I found waiting challenging and long! Then Whoosh it seems so sudden buds, blossoms, flowers, sunshine, a little more warmth, skies are blue, I even saw a seal celebrating in the river!! I’m curious what’s springing into life around you? Or within you? Yesterday I started a new part-time job working with refugees and new migrants, amazing watching a seed sprout and grow!!! Excited for this new challenge and looking forward to continuing to see private clients too 😊🙏🏼🌱

What does living a contented life mean to you? Is it possible to experience moments of grief, gratitude and joy and feel content even as we deal with our individual life issues and global issues? This is one of the questions we get curious about in - how is it possible to hold complexity, the both/and, our grief and our hope? This leads to some deep transformational conversations for our Self and our parts, love IFS work 🙏🏼😊🌱 and thank you for this quote #

Often in Life, (and often in )we’re trying to work out how to get from an old way of being to a new way of being, or embrace something new that is out of our comfort zone whether that’s a new relationship, new habit, new job, new place to live… And this takes a lot of Courage, Curiousity, Compassion with many of our scared parts within saying ‘No stick with what we know, stay the same!’ This language of parts is so helpful for explaining why we as humans find change so difficult! And the hardest part of any journey of change is the transition phase- where we feel we can’t go back and we are too scared to go forwards!! 🫤 This can happen even as we bushwalk in nature! 🌱🍃 I wanted to share a couple of weekends ago I was on and I’d walked a long way when I came across these patches of ice on the track- very beautiful, but for me, very scary, as when I was 13, I slipped on a rock and had terrible concussion….so slippery rocks are something I deeply fear! I had to stand there and ponder my options- if I turned back it would be a very, very, long walk….if I moved forward (out of my comfort zone), I’d need to go very slowly and carefully, feeling my way with each step! I had to reassure my scared parts that we would cross slowly and safely and then I tentatively took step by step not knowing if I would be able to make it!! I was very relieved to make it to the other side, 3x !!!, building up confidence with each step. And this is often what we need to do with a new challenge, reassure our scared parts and take it step by step, slowly and carefully. So I’m curious what’s your current challenge? And what’s the next slow and careful step to the other side?

What are your favourite ways of embracing winter? Especially around the time of the Winter Solstice, the longest night? This year for me, it was gathering around the fire with friends, being on the Mountain or at the beach to view the sunrise and be in the crisp cold air or ocean, it was also to do some mid winter solstice mandalas with - to deepen my understanding of how my ancestors from Scotland celebrated the turning of the year. Reading about, learning about Winter is supporting me to dive in to the season I usually find the hardest!! Especially having lived on the mainland for 16 years avoiding winter!! What are your strategies for embracing this season? For wintering? 😊🙏🏼🌱🥶🕯️🔥

How are you finding this winter? I’ve found this audiobook Wintering by so beautifully poetic and lyrical to listen to 😊🙏🏼🌱 with many stories about Wintering….from being in the ice and snow, to animals hibernating to metaphorical winters. My favourite quote: ‘We have seasons when we flourish and seasons when the leaves fall from us, revealing our bare bones. Given time, they grow again.’ I am loving being in a real season of Winter in Hobart with ice on the ground and snow on the Mountain- and I am finding the adjustment to short days and freezing swims challenging! I have also experienced the wintering Katherine May is describing, the dark night of the soul, the not knowing what will be my next step, and there is something reassuring about seeing the seasons turn knowing we too have changing seasons in our lifetime 😊🙏🏼🌱🥶🔥🕯️

Lots of reflections recently about what a healing journey looks like and feels like especially through the IFS lens and through a depth psychology lens. So many reflections I wrote a blog about it (link in bio). Thank you to for this great image. Over my weekend of beachcombing I was really curious about the symbols of a nest, a shell, a spiral, rainbow - and what they mean for my healing journey! What symbols speak to you and your healing journey?

I've been reflecting on what the healing journey can look like and feel like, especially through an Internal Family Systems Lens.... often incredibly non-linear, like a spiral or peeling back layers of a garlic clove, and often very responsive to what is happening in your world at the time....I've also been reflecting on how IFS parts and Self fit into depth psychology frameworks - would love to know what your healing journey has been like and if this article resonates with you? :)

Explore the non-linear healing journey with Internal Family Systems therapy, uncovering parts and achieving integration for wholeness.
