When we move beyond labels like attention seeking, manipulative or they should know better we create space for real understanding. We start asking different questions. What happened? What is this person needing? What are they trying to express?

Positive Behaviour Support is grounded in curiosity, behaviour analysis and the understanding that environments can shape outcomes. PBS is about creating spaces where people feel safe, respected and able to thrive.

Behind every behaviour there is meaning. There is a need. There is a story and meaning making.

Not all behaviour needs correcting.
But it always needs understanding.

When we shift from how do we stop this? to what is this telling us? everything changes.

Positive Behaviour Support invites us to slow down, stay curious and look beneath the surface. Behaviour is not random. It is shaped by experiences, environments, nervous systems and unmet needs.

Compassion is not lowering expectations. It is creating the conditions where growth becomes possible.

When people feel understood they will thrive.

In November, the Australian Association of Social Workers met with the Advisor for the Minister of NDIS the Hon Bill Shorten MP, to raise member concerns about barriers to working effectively with NDIS participants.

The NDIA has acknowledged, in writing the value of Social Work in supporting participants.

This includes:
• Providing a range of reasonable and necessary supports to participants, including therapy supports.
• The design, implementation and assessment of the effectiveness of therapy supports, including assessing and evaluating a participants Functional Capacity (FCAs).
