I don’t even know. I don’t even know what to say or do, I just know I’m tired, I’m sad and I’m concerned. I’m concerned that the period products we’ve had donated to our Dignity Drive so far are just not enough. At this rate, we will only be able to fulfil 11% of the period products our charity partners have requested. I made a promise to myself that I would give everything to ensure people weren't having to use socks or toilet paper to deal with their period, but I don't just feel like I'm letting myself down, I feel like I'm letting down the women, girls and people with a period who need us. Without us they will have to wad up toilet paper as a makeshift pad and I just can't let that be the case.
I’m looking at my calendar and there is only 10 days left of the Dignity Drive and have only had 20,000 period products donated. That will only support 5000 women or girls for four months... I'm worried that the cost of living is impacting people's ability to donate but I just don't know what else to do. Imagine if it was your daughter who had to sit on a toilet for hours because she didn't have period products or fill her underwear with tissues to try and go about her day.
I am always reminded of the story of the young girl who had to go into a laundromat to steal somebody else's socks to put in her un**es because she couldn’t afford period products. That is who I think about when I see these numbers and I don’t know what else to do. I feel really broken.
