Proud to support the team at Northbridge Football Club ⚽️

Ben Siu and Matt Grant-Smith, two of our Principal Physiotherapists at our Northbridge Clinic, recently delivered education sessions at Northbridge Football Club, covering key topics to keep players performing at their best.

This included Football Australia’s Perform+ Injury Prevention Program, recovery strategies, concussion recognition in the community, and Football Australia's Youth Load Management Guidelines.

Helping athletes stay informed, to reduce injury and perform at their best 💪 💯

Today, we recognise World Day for Safety and Health at Work.

This day, recognised by the United Nations, aims to prevent accidents and diseases at work.

As Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists and Massage Therapists, we assist numerous patients every week with recovering from work-related injuries, prepare to return to the work, and complete workplace assessments with an aim to reduce the risk of injury.

Our clinic team are proud to support our patients across all facets of life, and we’re here where you need us.

Some of our Physiotherapists recently attended an educational evening hosted by Harbour Spine Surgeons, covering Spinal Trauma in Adults and Children .

Led by Dr Sean Sutton and Dr Randolph Gray, the session covered mechanisms of injury, clinical assessment, imaging pathways, and identifying red flags requiring urgent referral.

We’re committed to staying at the forefront of evidence based care to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of treatment.

A big thank you to Dr Sutton and Dr Gray for sharing their expertise! 👏👏

You may have heard it said that exercise can help to improve your mental health. But did you know that research continues to show the positive effects exercise has on mental health?

Research shows that being active can boost your mental health—helping with depression and anxiety almost as much as therapy or medication.

Pretty incredible, right?

While school holidays are the perfect time of year for road trips, these long journeys in the car may leave you feeling stiff.

Here are three easy stretches you could try. We suggest stopping every 90 minutes to have a movement break.

1. Hip flexor stretch
2. Hamstring stretch
3. Standing spinal twist

Hold each stretch for as long as feels comfortable, move slowly, and listen to your body. Stop immediately if you feel any pain, and consult a physiotherapist for more individualised advice. Stay safe on the roads!

Bringing the latest in ACL research back to our patients 🦵📚

We had the opportunity to attend an exclusive educational seminar with Dr Tom Cross, on the Cross Bracing Protocol he pioneered for non-operative management of ACL injuries.

Hosted by orthopaedic knee surgeon Dr Quang Dao at Sydney Southwest Private Hospital, the session explored how certain ACL injuries may have the potential to heal without surgery.

We’re always committed to staying at the forefront of evidence-based care so we can provide our patients with the best possible treatment options.

Watch this space… the future of ACL rehab is evolving 🔥

Life is busy and here at Sports Focus Physio, we understand.

While we won’t go on and on about all of the ways stress can potentially contribute negatively to our overall wellbeing, we will say it’s important to find positive ways to manage stress where possible.

This can be as simple as finding time for relaxation, doing something you love, taking a daily morning walk, or practicing mindful breathing.

How do you manage stress in your day-to-day life?

Do you know the difference between acute pain and persistent pain?

Acute pain lasts less than 6 weeks and is linked to a specific injury.

On the other hand, persistent pain lasts more than 12 weeks. Persistent pain can be more complex and often reflects changes in the sensitivity of the nervous system.

If you’re living with pain, a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist may be able to assist. Contact our friendly team today to find out more.
