Logan Hospital is the major health centre for one of the fastest growing regions in the state. We asked everyone’s favourite question, ‘give us a fun fact’. 🫠

When the team at Meadowbrook Health Centre Minor Injury and Illness Clinic (MHCMIIC) aren’t searching for their next golden-brown pastry, they’re providing care and compassion to patients at the clinic. 🫶

MHCMIIC opened earlier this year. It treats injuries and illness that aren’t life-threatening.

You can visit for:
👉 sprains and strains
👉 minor burns and scalds
👉 fevers, coughs and colds
👉 grazes and splinters
👉 insect bites and stings
👉 foreign objects in the ears or nose
👉 minor infections.

The clinic is open 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week.

If your injury or illness is life-threatening, you should always call Triple Zero (000) or visit an emergency department. 🏥

Logan Hospital’s perioperative team has launched a new model of care to support surgical patients with complex medical and social needs.

The team now takes over care for some post-operative patients once their acute surgical issues have resolved, allowing surgeons to focus on new acute cases while patients receive coordinated, proactive medical management.

Director of Perioperative Medicine Dr Rajesh Gupta said the new approach is already making a difference.

“It means earlier recognition and treatment of complications, smoother discharge planning, and better outcomes for patients and their families,” she said.

This collaborative initiative, supported by surgical, medical, geriatric, and allied health teams, marks an exciting step forward in improving care for our most complex patients. 💙

Kim K works hard, but the Emergency Department (ED) staff work HARDER. 💅

Meeya is a clinical nurse at Logan Hospital's Paediatric ED. She takes care of children from birth to young adulthood.

She says it's important to call Triple Zero (000) in an emergency so an ambulance can take you to the ED.

If it’s not an emergency, it's best to call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for free 24/7 health advice. You'll speak to a qualified nurse who will tell you if you need to go to a GP, pharmacy or ED.

Christmas came early for young Zanaysia as she rang the bell at our Children’s Inpatient Unit yesterday to mark the end of her cancer treatment.

Her mum Evelyn said she would never stop celebrating her beautiful daughter and the incredible strength the 11-year-old has shown throughout her cancer journey.

Diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year, Zanaysia underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and is now proudly cancer-free!

Join us in congratulating Zanaysia and wishing her and her family an extra-special, healthy and joy-filled Christmas.

The number of Nurse Practitioners (NP) is on the rise, and that’s good news for patients. 🏥

Logan and Beaudesert Health Service is helping lead this growth, strengthening the future of nursing and ensuring more people have access to advanced, patient-centred care.

Jacqueline Smith, LBHS Director of Nursing and Midwifery, said building the NP workforce is a priority.

“This advanced nursing role has the ability to diagnose and treat patients, prescribe medications, and lead models of care.

“Their unique skills not only enhance patient outcomes but also support collaborative, team-based care across hospitals, community settings, and specialist services.”

Shout-out to all the incredible Nurse Practitioners across Logan, Beaudesert, and Metro South Health! 👏

What started as a project has become a place of healing 💙

When Registered Nurse Toni joined the Logan Hospital Expansion team, she never imagined she’d soon be caring for patients in the very ward she helped design.

Toni’s input helped shape our new Mental Health Ward 2C - creating calm, purpose-built spaces that support recovery, safety and connection for patients and staff.

The new ward marks the completion of Phase 1 of the Logan Hospital Expansion, which has delivered more than 200 new beds and treatment spaces across our campus.

We’re so proud of Toni and all our staff who’ve been part of this incredible transformation. 💙

Baby Sophie is one of roughly 30 people in Australia with Kleefstra syndrome.
This is a rare genetic condition where there is a mutation or deletion of the EHMT1 gene on the 9th chromosome. 🧬
Sophie's mum had a mostly uncomplicated pregnancy until she presented to Logan Hospital twice with reduced fetal movement at 33 weeks and 35 weeks plus 2 days. After being sent for an ultrasound, it was found that baby Sophie had late onset fetal growth restriction.
She was monitored by the Maternal Fetal Medicine team with regular scans to keep a close eye on Sophie. They also recommended a C-section for 37 weeks.
'In the lead up to my C-section, I had a tour of the Special Care Nursery and an education session with the lactation consultant on how to use the pump and collect colostrum,' Sophie’s mum said.
'My partner and I also attended the antenatal classes and breastfeeding class that Logan Hospital provides. My partner went to the dad’s antenatal class and found it extremely educational.'
Sophie's parents went into the C-section well prepared and were expecting Sophie might need to go to the Special Care Nursery.
'My C-section was mostly a beautiful, relaxing experience,' Sophie's mum said.
'The surgical team were amazing and Sophie's dad got to cut her umbilical cord. Sophie did need to be taken to special care for breathing support, but we were kept in the loop as to what was happening and Sophie's dad was able to go with her.'
Thankfully, Sophie only needed 40 minutes in special care until she was back in her mum's arms. After a 4-night stay at Logan Hospital, her parents were able to take her home. 🥰
'At birth, it was picked up that there was something different about Sophie,' her mum said.
'The paediatricians wanted to investigate further and we saw them in hospital when Sophie was 8 weeks old. It was decided after a follow up that they would do genetic testing.'
A few days before she turned 5 months old, Sophie was diagnosed with Kleefstra syndrome.
‘At the moment we do not know how Sophie’s diagnosis will affect her in the future and with her diagnosis there do come challenges, but we are celebrating the milestones she is achieving and not putting limitations on her.’
While the only clinic in Australia to specialise in Kleefstra syndrome is at the Royal Children's Hospital in Sydney, Sophie's parents are grateful for the amazing care they're receiving from a team of specialists at Logan Hospital and the Queensland Children's Hospital. 🙌
'Sophie has an amazing paediatrician at Logan Hospital called Dr Tim. We cannot fault the care we have received from both Logan Hospital and the Queensland Children’s hospital,' her mum said.
Thank you for sharing Sophie's story with us, and for your dedication to raise awareness for Kleefstra syndrome. ❤️

Logan Hospital’s incredible Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Outpatient Service has been recognised as one of Australia’s leading users of the Tristel Trio Trace system. 👏

The milestone highlights the team’s ongoing commitment to excellence in infection control.

The system was introduced in 2015, and in the past year alone the team has completed nearly 5,000 disinfection cycles, helping deliver safer, faster and more cost-effective care for our patients.

Our Story

Logan Hospital is the major health centre for one of the fastest growing regions in the state. We have grown from a 48-bed community hospital in 1990 to a 448-bed hospital today, mirroring the rapid growth in population in the Logan region. Services we provide We provide acute medical, surgical, rehabilitation, maternity, cardiology, orthopaedics, renal and other specialty services for children and adults. As part of our commitment to performing more elective surgery, in early 2014, we opened our eighth surgical theatre. The new theatre has allowed us to perform an average of 12-15 major cases to 40-50 minor operations each week. In late 2014, Logan Hospital opened our doors to a brand new multi-storey building as part of our $152.3M expansion project. The first stages of this project included a new co-located adult’s and children’s emergency department, an expanded children’s inpatient ward and a new 24-bed rehabilitation unit. A new cardiac catheter laboratory will also be built, allowing up to 800 local residents with heart conditions to be treated closer to home. Education As a teaching hospital, we help train future health care professionals and participate in research through strong partnerships with Queensland’s leading tertiary institutions. In the 2014-2015 financial year, there were: 60,803 patients admitted to the hospital 75,982 presentations to the emergency department 39,835 outpatient appointments 3,319 babies born. Logan Hospital employs more than 1921 staff, making it the largest employer in Logan City.
