One of the biggest misunderstandings about pain and recovery is the idea that it’s either “physical” or “psychological.”
Take someone with an ACL injury. There may be clear tissue damage, swelling, inflammation, reduced strength, and loss of movement. That physical side is real.
But there’s also the mental and emotional side:
“How long will this take?”
“Will I get back to what I love doing?”
“How will this affect work, finances, confidence, or daily life?”
All of these things can influence the nervous system, stress responses, recovery, healing, and even how pain is experienced.
That’s why recovery is rarely just about exercises, strength, or mobility alone. Sometimes slowing down, feeling safe, breathing, resting properly, and calming the system can play an important role too.
This reel explains it really well.
If anyone is interested in this side of things, I’ve been building a small space around slowing down, nervous system regulation, mindfulness, recovery, and finding a little more balance in a constantly busy world.
