This is the key summary figure from the PTSD paper showing the associations between mode of birth and PTSD more than 6 months following birth. In short it appears PTSD is more likely following instrumental birth and caesarean section, particularly emergency caesarean section.

A complete guide to the options available when planning out your maternity care. The key is understanding your own philosophy and then fitting everything else around your care provider and location choices.

First think about where YOU sit on the medication spectrum and THEN start aligning this with your choices of care provider and location.

The further you slide across the spectrum the more medical your care becomes and the more likely you are to be exposed to unnecessary/routine interventions throughout your care. The further you move along the medicalisation spectrum the closer you are to a hospital and rapid medical attention.

If your dream birth involves early hospital admission, pharmaceutical pain relief, elective induction or caesarean and an extended stay in hospital then you might feel more comfortable with an obstetrician in hospital

if your intention is to have a vaginal birth with as few interventions as possible, midwifery care would be better suited and as far away from a hospital as you feel safe

Once you understand where you sit on the spectrum, choose a care provider and location that also aligns with your personal needs and philosophy. Choosing a care provider and location that doesn’t align with your preferences creates a barrier to you getting what you wanted from your birth. It’s your responsibility to make the choices that create the best opportunity for your needs and desires to be met…

This is a place to start when planning care that will feel most satisfying in the end.

Hi fellow Rh negative women.
Recently, the Foetal RHD Genotyping test has been made UNAVAILABLE to women unless the already have rhesus disease. This is an amazing test that can be done from 12 weeks gestation and tells us what baby's blood group is just by testing Mum's blood. If the baby has a negative blood group like mum, having the Anti D injection in pregnancy is completely unnecessary (statistically 40% of Rh negative women are carrying an Rh negative baby)! Over the last few years, women who have known about the test have been able to access it through the only place that can do it - the Australian Red Cross. But that has now been stopped! Dr James Daly, Medical Director of the Australian Red Cross is seeking emails from women and midwives requesting that the test be made available to all Rh negative pregnant women in Australia (it would also save the Australian government millions of dollars a year in not giving unecessary Anti D which is usually given to all Rh negative women at 28 and 34 weeks gestation). Anti D is a blood product and not without its risks. Dr Daly's email address is: jamesdaly@redcrossblood.org.au
Please support.

“We can reject everything else: religion, ideology, all received wisdom. But we cannot escape the necessity of love and compassion. This, then, is my true religion, my simple faith. In this sense, there is no need for temple or church, for mosque or synagogue, no need for complicated philosophy, doctrine or dogma. Our own heart, our own mind, is the temple.

The doctrine is compassion. Love for others and respect for their rights and dignity, no matter who or what they are: ultimately these are all we need. So long as we practice these in our daily lives, then no matter if we are learned or unlearned, whether we believe in Buddha or God, or follow some other religion or none at all, as long as we have compassion for others and conduct ourselves with restraint out of a sense of responsibility, there is no doubt we will be happy.”
