When their storm meets our calm something powerful happens.
That is where co regulation begins.

A steady voice, a slow breath, a grounding presence.
These moments help children feel safe, understood and ready to reset.

Together we guide them back to balance one calm connection at a time.

⛱️Beach days are full of moments that help little learners grow.⛱️

From digging to filling to decorating, each step in building a sandcastle is a chance to model sequencing and new vocabulary.
As you explore, chat about what you see, hear, feel and smell.✨️
Use describing words like wet sand, tall tower or bumpy wall to bring language to life.💕

The best part is that it all happens through simple play in the sunshine.

✨️Meet Charlotte✨️

We are so excited to welcome Charlotte to the Connecting Dots for Kids team as our newest Therapy Assistant.

Charlotte is currently in her second year of a Bachelor of Speech Pathology Honours at Federation University. Before stepping into the therapy world, she spent almost four years in the legal industry, where she developed a strong passion for empowering people to communicate and reach their goals.
Charlotte has always loved working with children and is looking forward to creating fun, engaging therapy sessions while building meaningful connections with children and their families.

When she is not at work or university, you might find her renovating her home with her partner, travelling overseas, or spending time with friends and family.

We are thrilled to have Charlotte on board and cannot wait for our families to get to know her 💛

✨️Keeping Routines Merry and Bright✨️

Holiday excitement can be wonderful, but big days can also feel overwhelming. Building in quiet moments helps kids rest, reset, and stay regulated.
Try calm activities like reading together, slow breathing, or simple sensory play
Create a quiet spot with soft toys, noise cancelling headphones, or a weighted blanket
Let your child know it is okay to take a break when things feel too busy

Including recharge time helps children stay calm, enjoy the day, and make the holiday fun last longer.

✨️🎄OT at Home: Christmas Edition🎄✨️

Decorating the house is more than holiday fun. When kids lift, carry, and hang decorations, they are practicing careful movement, using both sides of their body together, and learning how to judge space around them. It is a simple way to build coordination and body awareness while making your home feel magical.

Encourage your child to choose where items should go, carry decorations safely, and help place them. It turns decorating into a meaningful motor planning activity they will be proud of.

✅️Skill focus: Motor planning, balance and body awareness

🎁❤️How to Fit in Practice Around the Holidays❤️🎁

The holiday season can be full of activities, visitors, and excitement, but there are plenty of simple ways to keep speech and OT skills ticking along at home. Little moments through the day can turn into playful practice without feeling like extra work.

🎁Bake together and chat through each step using words like first, next, last
🎁Wrap gifts and practice cutting, folding, writing names, and describing colours and textures
🎁Sing carols to build rhythm, repetition, and memory
🎁Write cards to family and friends to support fine motor skills and letter formation

Holiday fun and learning can go hand in hand. Every small moment counts.

🎄OT at Home: Christmas Edition🎄

Threading beads or pasta to make ornaments is a simple activity that packs in so much learning.
As kids carefully thread each piece, they’re building hand strength, control, and hand-eye coordination. It also supports focus and visual tracking while giving them something beautiful to proudly hang on the tree.
It’s calming, creative, and a lovely way to enjoy some quiet Christmas crafting together.

Skill focus: Fine motor control, focus and visual tracking

🎄🎁Keeping Routines Merry and Bright🎁🎄

Holiday plans can look a little different, and talking things through beforehand can make a big difference for your child. Before heading out or welcoming guests, take a moment to walk them through what the day will look like.
🎄Let them know who they’ll see and what you’ll be doing
🎄Use simple sequencing words like first, then, after
🎄Preview anything that might feel big or unexpected, like loud music or busy spaces

Talking about changes in advance helps kids feel calm, prepared, and confident, even when the day is full of festive surprises.❤️🎁

🎄OT at Home: Christmas Edition🎄

Wrapping presents isn’t just about holiday cheer—it’s a secret workout for developing skills!
Holding paper in one hand while cutting or taping with the other helps build bilateral coordination, while measuring, folding, and taping encourages planning and sequencing skills. Plus, your kids get to create something special for family and friends!

✅️Skill focus: Bilateral coordination & planning
