Trauma-Centered Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is not about fixing, changing, or achieving.
It’s an approach grounded in empowerment and choice.
One of the core principles of TCTSY is non-coercion—a practice of creating a space where you are invited, not instructed, to explore movement, breath, and awareness.
In TCTSY, the focus is always on your agency.
YOU decide what feels right for YOUR body. There are no expectations, no “right” way to move, and no judgment.
This aligns with the understanding that trauma can take away a sense of control over one’s body, and healing involves reclaiming that control.
What does this look like?
• Instead of being told how to move, you’re offered options.
• Instead of goals, there’s curiosity about how your body feels in the present moment.
• Instead of external validation, you’re encouraged to turn inward and notice your own experience.
Why is non-coercion important?
For those navigating trauma, being told what to do—even in supportive settings—can be triggering.
Non-coercion ensures that the power remains with you. It fosters safety and helps rebuild trust in your body and instincts.
What might you explore today if you felt no pressure to do it “right”?
Curious about TCTSY we have two new programs starting in January - dm or check out link in bio to find out more.
