The Araluen Centre was established at the Lower Plenty site in Old Eltham Road in 1973 to provide services for adults with an intellectual disability. Our heritage dates back to 1950 when a small group of parents commenced a supported playgroup in a Kew garage.

📚✨ Araluen’s Preloved Book Sale is back on the weekend of the 11 & 12 October - our biggest (and funnest!) event of the year!
To make it a huge success, we need your support. Please donate your resaleable preloved books, CDs, DVDs and jigsaw puzzles. Every donation helps raise vital funds for Araluen.

📍 Donations can be dropped at:
• Araluen Rosanna (2–6 Turnham Ave) on Saturday mornings, 9am–12pm (6, 13, 20, 27 September & 4 October).
• Or at Lower Plenty admin office (weekday drop-offs, 9am–4pm).

❌ Please note: we cannot accept travel guides older than 2022, encyclopedias, or items outside of books, puzzles, CDs & DVDs - as we must pay to dispose of them.
💙 Your donations = more treasures for the community to discover at the sale. Thank you for making this event possible!

🙌 Can you please lend a hand and help make Araluen’s preloved book sale a best seller? Our biggest fundraising event of the year will be held at Araluen Rosanna on the weekend of 11 and 12 October.

We’re looking for volunteers to help with:
🧡 Sorting books prior to the event
📦 Helping to accept and sort book/puzzle/CD/DVD donations at our drop off locations leading up to the event
📚 Event setup and pack up
🛍️ Sales & customer service
….and a range of other tasks

Got a few hours to spare before or during the event? We’d love your help - every bit of support makes a big difference! And, to say “thanks”, all volunteers will be invited to our special Supporters preview evening so we can show our heartfelt appreciation.

📚 SAVE THE DATE: The next exciting chapter is coming! Our Preloved Book Sale is returning to Araluen Rosanna on Sat 11 & Sun 12 Oct 2025 – and it’s set to be bigger, better & bursting with bargains!

We’re now accepting good quality donations of:
📖 Books (all genres, adults & kids – but not magazines, encyclopedias or travel guides older than 2022)
🧩 Jigsaw puzzles
💿 CDs and DVDs

📍 Drop off at Lower Plenty Admin, Mon–Fri, 9am–4pm.
(226 Old Eltham Rd Lower Plenty)
Please don’t leave items outside or at other sites – there will be opportunities for this later in the year. And please only leave items that are in a resaleable condition – or we have to pay to dispose of them.

Recently, artist James, shared some insight into his latest ceramic sculpture - a piece close to his heart.
“I feel happy in there”, James said. “Pottery is very important to me. This is my family beach house.”
The sculpture, still in progress, is shaping up beautifully. Once completed, James plans to sell this work - a blend of memory, craft, and passion.

🐾 Meet our paw-some Chancez regulars. Maisie, the golden retriever, set us the ulti-mutt challenge: homemade dog treats! 🦴 After some “ruff” drafts, Maisie taste-tested every batch and gave her official paw of approval. 🐾✅

Now, she even brings her furry friend Taffy to Chancez for a treat or two. Because why should humans have all the yum? 😋🐕 At Chancez, every guest gets treated like top dog. 🐕✨

, in partnership with SecondBite, provides free, nutritious meals to people doing it tough. Our group of aspiring volunteers recently had a guided tour through FareShare’s incredible Melbourne kitchen - where 5,000 meals are cooked every week! 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳

Seeing how rescued and farm-grown food is transformed into hearty meals for soup vans, shelters, women’s refuges, and more was truly inspiring. Who knows what spark to pitch in and make a difference this visit might’ve cooked up? 🍽️ Stay tuned! 🍽️
