We’re excited to share a little more about how Dr A***n Javidi has joined our team at Loxton Health Centre and what his supervision pathway will look like.

Dr A***n Javidi is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who completed his medical training in Iran. After gaining experience overseas, he chose to continue his medical career here in Australia — and we are very pleased that his journey has brought him to our community in Loxton.

HOW DID DR JAVIDI COME TO LOXTON?
Like many IMGs, Dr Javidi applied to work in Australia through a formal medical registration pathway. As part of this process:

✔️ His qualifications were assessed
✔️ He met national registration standards including passing written examinations from the Australian Medical Council and passing a clinical interview
✔️ He secured an approved position in an area of workforce need

Regional communities like ours play an important role in welcoming highly skilled international doctors. These pathways help strengthen rural healthcare services while ensuring doctors are well supported.

WHAT ARE HIS SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS?
All IMGs working in Australia are required to practise under supervision for a period of time. This is a standard requirement and is designed to:

• Ensure patient safety
• Support doctors to adapt to the Australian healthcare system
• Familiarise them with local clinical guidelines and processes
• Provide structured mentoring and professional support

Dr Javidi will be working under an approved supervision plan with experienced senior GPs. For the first 3 months all patients seen by Dr Javidi will undergo a review with a senior doctor at the Loxton Health Centre prior to leaving the clinic. Additionally he will have case discussions and ongoing assessment to ensure he transitions to the Australian system smoothly. As he demonstrates competency within the Australian system, his level of independence will gradually increase.

Supervision is not a reflection of skill — it is a structured and supportive process that all IMGs complete as part of becoming fully registered in Australia.

We are confident Dr Javidi will be a wonderful addition to our team and community, and we look forward to supporting him as he begins in March.

Please join us in welcoming Dr A***n Javidi to Loxton 💙

🎉 Great news for our community! 🎉

We’re pleased to announce that Loxton Hospital has officially re-opened our operating theatre and full obstetric services following a temporary closure for theatre upgrades.

The upgrade works are now complete, and services have safely resumed. This means we’re once again able to provide surgical care and welcome new arrivals locally — something we know is incredibly important for our community 💙

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these improvements were carried out. We’re excited to be back and caring for you close to home.

The Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network (RMCLHN) is pleased to share that the $550,000 upgrade to the Loxton Hospital Complex theatre is now complete.

The walls, floor vinyl and air conditioning have been upgraded.

These upgrades will result in improved clinical services, accessibility, and improved quality, health and safety outcomes for staff and consumers. They also ensure people living in the town and surrounds of Loxton continue to have access to safe, high quality health care close to home.

The Loxton Hospital Complex theatre lists recommenced from Tuesday 17 February 2026, and all planned and unplanned labour and birth care recommenced at Loxton Hospital Complex from 8:30am today, Wednesday 18 February 2026.

ℹ For more information, pregnant women can speak with their GP Obstetrician or Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) midwife. You can also send us a direct message, or comment any questions below, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

📢 Update to Appointment Scheduling at Loxton Health Centre

We’re making an important change to how we release appointments to improve access and flexibility for our patients.

🗓 What’s Changing?
Previously, appointments were released on the last Friday of each month for the entire following month.

Moving forward, appointments will now be released one week at a time, up to 8 weeks in advance.

✔ There will no longer be a single “bulk release” day each month.
✔ A new week of appointments will open on a rolling basis.

Why the change?
This new system will help us:
• Spread appointment availability more evenly
• Reduce the rush and long wait times on release days
• Provide fairer access for all patients

If you’re planning ahead, please note that bookings will gradually become available as each new week opens.

☎️ Appointments can be booked online via HotDocs or by contacting one of our friendly admin team during business hours.

We appreciate your patience as we transition to this new system and thank you for your continued support of Loxton Health Centre.

09/02/2026

The Loxton Health Centre is thrilled to welcome THREE new doctors over the past couple of weeks. Additionally there will be another joining our ranks in the coming weeks. This has resulted in immediate appointment availability.

Stay tuned over the coming days to learn more about our new doctors
