Party’s over folks. Monday mornings are back open for business. For anyone that’s spent more than 5 minutes with me I’m sure you’ve heard me say “I’ll never work Monday mornings”. Yet here we are, due to demand and the incoming addition of Dr Miranda (you’ll all be stoked to have her) I’ll be working Monday mornings for the next 8 weeks. To my slow Monday morning coffees, workouts and reading… I’ll be back for you ❤️

🛑🛑🛑 why I generally always assess lower limb with low back / hip complaints, Particularly in active individuals. 2 days ago while running a 10k I felt my R calf pull at the 1km mark.

You can see in the video my R knee isn’t traveling as far forward. This is due to the tension in my calf causing my pelvis to rotate in the squat and placing excess load on the medial side of my knee. I enjoy using my own Injuries (albeit minor) to reinforce good habits around injury and training.

What I will be doing:
✅ remaining positive
✅ continue all unaffected training as normal (just done some curls)
✅ gradually increasing ROM from day 1
✅ gradually start adding load towards weeks end
✅ slow interval run on weekend (if tolerable)
✅ prioritise sleep
✅ slight increase in calories

What I won’t be doing:
❌ pain killers
❌ avoiding movement
❌ avoiding load
❌ increasing load when not tolerated
❌ restricting cals because I don’t want to get phat
❌ complicating the recovery process and trying 75 different calf exercises from the IG bros that “guarantee” to solve your issue within 3-5 business days
❌ convincing myself I’m a high level athlete / alpha male and continue carrying the boats.

For the New Year’s resolutioners❗️❗️❗️
Consistent action trumps no action every day of the week. My advice for those starting the year off with big health goals. Start with small daily achievable habits. Too often I see people set the bar so high that they get overwhelmed and drop off within the month. Start small and build your base.
Instead of telling yourself you have to train for an hour each time you go, just tell yourself to get there and do what you can.
Yesterday’s lunch break was cut short and only had 20 minutes to train but still got it in. Discipline > motivation. Consistency > perfection. Apply this same principal with other areas of health. As always focus on

- sleep
- calm nervous system
- daily movement
- 20 min sun
- Nutritions whole foods
- Stay hydrated

Healthy living isn’t going to be glamorous or awe inspiring, it’s simply about taking consistent action that aligns with your goals.

Get to know Miranda!

Miranda is currently completing her last semester of uni and will be a registered Chiro early next year. Prior to Chiro Miranda worked in mining as a civil engineer so she understands the rigours of mining work.

Miranda loves her footy just as much as me (albeit twice the athlete), still playing and coaching at grassroots and representative levels. Loves her animals, especially her pet pig Eddie. Miranda was involved in a serious motorbike accident at 19 and found hope and relief with chiropractic care. Her career change was brought on by her desire to impact people’s lives and assist them with their health goals and we are so lucky to have her in clinic with us. Miranda is available for appointments every Tuesday morning from 8am - 12pm. No private health offered but a discounted rate of $80 new patient $40 existing patient.

My Strava is by no means impressive, nor are my lifts, these aren’t my best runs but also not my worst. When goal setting whether it’s fitness or another area of life, it’s great to set big goals. I also find it equally important to have minimum standards you won’t allow yourself to drop under. For me, irrespective of time or age these are my standards.
Continuous 5km run
1.0 x BW bench press
1.5 x BW squat
2.0 x BW deadlift

These aren’t huge numbers but they’re not meant to be. These are a minimum standard I plan on maintaining well into my 80s.

What are your minimum standards?
