- Appropriately 5.5 million Australians live with a disability, representing about 21.4% of the population
- The likelihood of having a disability increases with age:
::: More than half of Australians aged 65 and over have a disability
::: For those aged 15-64, the prevalence is around 13%
- The number and proportion of people with disability have increased since 2018
- The most common type of disability within Australia is physical disability, with musculoskeletal disorders and related conditions being the most frequently reported main health conditions
- In Australia, people with disabilities have access to a range of government- funded programs and legal protections designed to help them prepare for, find and maintain employment
