My little side hustle! 💙 It's been exciting to find a case load of clients, build/buy resources, and navigate the business world. Definitely comes with its challenges. But I've got a great mentor and speech pathologist colleagues to support me in my journey.

As part of the adult Speak Easy group, I sometimes host the weekly sessions. During tonight's session, as a group, we created a stuttering iceberg with successes and challenges. Sharing experiences from the week and factors that influenced the successful or challenging experience.

Above the surface is what people see - stuttering/fluency. Underneath the surface are personal factors (e.g., thoughts/beliefs/feelings) and environmental factors (e.g., communication partners, communication accessible environments).

Stuttering is multifaceted and is more than just the physical components of stuttering. Looking at the bigger picture, helps to create a better understanding and knowledge of the experience.

Shopping for the essentials 🍫 Pippa wanted to write a shopping list before we left. The only spelling I helped with was < ch >. Pippa underlines it and says "two spellings, one sound". 😉🙌❤️

I had my first stuttering client via zoom this afternoon. Such a cool little dude! Openly talked about what it's like to talk to his friends with "bumpy" words and that mum is the easiest person to talk to because she listens and waits for me to finish. Learnt what the word "stuttering" means.

CAMP SAY: AU is just 7 months away!!!

That's right...from Jan 16th - 20th, 2023, in the beautiful surroundings of LOG CABIN CAMP in Creswick / VIC, we're holding Australia's first ever 5-night sleep-away summer camp dedicated to young people who stutter aged 7-18yrs.

At Camp SAY: AU, campers will have the unique opportunity to meet other young people who stutter in a safe space where they are free to express themselves without fear or ridicule...a place where they are free to be their true authentic selves...a place where their voice is heard and their voice matters...and a place where it’s really OK to stutter!

So instead of worrying about stuttering, campers can experience the simple joy of being a child.

At Camp SAY: AU we combine a high quality, traditional camp experience with specialised programs and activities that help young people who stutter develop confidence and independence, and form important lifelong friendships.
