🚐 We’ve got exciting news to share!

Our residents are hitting the road in style with our brand new bus! 🎉

Our new bus will make our residents’ outings even more comfortable, safe, and enjoyable and will help us continue providing wonderful opportunities for our residents to stay connected with the community and enjoy regular trips and activities.

Since we’ve upgraded, our old bus is now for sale — and we’d love your help finding it a new home! If you know anyone who might be interested, please check out our Facebook ad and give it a share.

At Francis of Assisi Home, we have an awesome team of Diversional Therapists (DTs) and Resident Engagement Officers (REOs) who spend time with our residents, engaging them in group activities or one-on-ones. This month they are focusing on engaging residents in making Christmas craft, either for their sections or for the Christmas Village in our central courtyard. To make this sustainable, we prefer to reuse/recycle what we already have instead of buying more stuff. Therefore, we would like to ask you for any kind donations of Christmas tinsel, baubles, trees, etc that you do not use anymore (please do not buy new decorations, we only want what you don’t use anymore). These will be cut up, glued, wired and crafted into wonderful Christmas craft, helping our residents make beautiful memories and contributing to the Francis of Assisi annual Christmas spirit!! You are also welcome to join us in creating craft. Santa’s workshop tables have been set up in St Joseph. Please contact Kristine at the office for more information. Thank you 🙏

We recently had the privilege to host the Brass Section of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at Francis of Assisi Home. They performed several pieces for the residents which was received with great joy. See the last video of ‘The Entertainer’ piece which was popularised in the 1970s as the theme music for the 1973 movie “The Sting”. Thank you for visiting us and we hope to see you again soon 💙

October is the month of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

At Francis of Assisi, we will honour Our Lady with a procession this coming Tuesday, 7th October, at 2.30 pm. You are all warmly invited to join us.

We were delighted to celebrate one of our residents for his outstanding achievement last Friday morning, 26th September 2025.

In June, Dr Peter G. Wright was awarded the Order of Australia for his remarkable contributions to the sugar industry and his lifelong dedication to community service and volunteering. Peter has made a significant impact through his leadership and involvement with the Australian Society of Sugar Cane Technologists (ASSCT) and has devoted 64 years of service to the St Vincent de Paul Society, where he held numerous roles, including membership on the Vincent Housing Committee.

Last Friday, local members of the Mackay Region Order of Australia Association OAA presented the award and read out a personal letter of congratulations from the Queensland Governor. This was followed by morning tea shared with Peter’s wife, Berenice, his family and fellow residents.

Congratulations, Dr Peter G. Wright, on this extraordinary and well-deserved honour!

Today Francis of Assisi Home celebrated Multicultural Day, with cultural displays, food and dancing. Thank you to all staff and residents who participated. Main performances were from Kerala, India; Samoa; Fiji; Philippines and Australian Nutbush. Together we are one!
