Hello Mackay NDIS Community,
MINDS QLD Pty Ltd would like to enter the Mackay space as a locally owned and run service for people with disabilities that addresses the needs of the community. Our Team has been working hard to get a space ready with the intent to provide some services that we have identified as needed in the Mackay area
We would like to announce that starting on the 5th of August, MINDS QLD Pty Ltd will be commencing Group and centre based capacity building services in the afterschool period for people living with disabilities in our new “That Place” venue in Victoria street. The sessions will include a pick-up service, food, and fun. Sessions will be facilitated Monday through to Friday.
Sessions will commence at school finish at 3PM and will run until 5.30-6PM where pickup from our space will be required at 91 Victoria Street (across the Road from Masala Indian Restaurant ), If additional requirements are needed then we are more than happy to accommodate where we can however this will need to be discussed prior to engagement.
Whilst these groups are aimed at parents of school going children, we also understand that there are other people who might benefit from support in a community space during these times and welcome you as well.
Group and centre based activities are charged at a rate equal to $67.56 (as stated in the price guide) divided by the number of participants serviced by that staff member aiming at a 1:2 ratio to begin with and expanding based on numbers so as to always have at least 2 support workers in the venue for safety to keep the service affordable for your plan. There will be additional fees included on that regarding travel and running costs which are specific to each participant, however we are upfront about these and happy to discuss any fees with you should you wish to utilise our services (fees will be subject to change as the service expands and we are able to deliver more).
During each session we will primarily have each participant introduced to each other and have a wind down from the schooling day. We will all make our own afternoon tea based on the abilities of each participant on the day and their collective preferences, this might include but is not limited to:- 2 minute noodles, toasted sandwiches, sushi, fruit skewers, air fried food, etc as this has been identified as a skill which many of our children could build upon for improved independence.
Post afternoon tea participants will be supported/encouraged to complete any homework they are willing to complete. Before engaging in some group activities such as board games, video games, active interpersonal games all identified as useful in helping build on a skill for the day such as team building, fine motor skills, acceptance, articulation, understanding social cues, and exposure to stimulating environments and self-regulation.
If at any time throughout the service participant’s find themselves overwhelmed or do not wish to participate in an activity there are quiet spaces and low stimulatory activities available within supervised areas for participants to engage at their own discretion (these are continually added to as we identify participant specific strategies that are meaningful.
We are here to help build self confidence, self awareness and self acceptance as well as encouraging skills like being a positive influence to others, voicing our feelings (safely) and accepting others.
MINDS QLD Pty Ltd want to acknowledge people living with disabilities, Carers of people living with disabilities, parents and guardians of people living with disabilities and ask for your help so that we can help you.
Additionally, we are starting late night Friday and Saturday night services. These services are unique in that they are designed to provide the support that participants need and meet their required capacity building goals, but at a time that is convenient for parents and guardians to have some R&R whilst helping participants engage in social activities that might otherwise be unavailable to them. Running from 6PM until 9PM on a Friday, and 5PM until 9PM on a Saturday.
Unfortunately we are only able to take on ambulant participants as we do not have a downstairs bathroom yet, as soon as this is ready we will let the community know so that we can support people of all abilities.
Any ideas that you might have on things we can do to help you or your loved ones are always welcomed. We love collaborating and have a great network of industry professionals helping guide us in maintaining meaningful services, we want you to be apart of that network too. We are very excited to discuss our plans for the future to help not only our participants but all stakeholders in the Mackay community.
At this point in time MINDS QLD Pty Ltd is not NDIA registered and as such we can only work with people that are plan managed and self-managed although we are registered with the NDIS as a service provider.
Please feel free to reach out and speak with Steven Brent the director on 0421001227 for more information or to book a service.

Kind regards
