👟 SCHOOL SHOE TIPS 👟
Choosing comfortable and supportive school shoes plays an important role in your child’s foot health.
When choosing shoes for your child, look for the following:
1️⃣ Firm but not tight fit
Shoes should feel secure to provide stability, without restricting movement or causing pressure.
2️⃣ Wide toe box
A wide toe box allows your child’s toes to spread naturally, supporting balance and healthy foot development. This helps prevent rubbing, blisters, juvenile bunions and other toe conditions.
3️⃣ Twist test (arch support)
Hold the shoe with one hand at the heel and one at the front, then twist in opposite directions. If the shoe twists easily, it lacks adequate arch support. The best shoes are firmer and try to stay in their original shape, providing better support through the arch.
4️⃣ Toe bend test
Hold the shoe at the heel and the front and bend it upwards. The shoe should bend where the toes meet the foot. This allows for a more natural walking pattern. If it bends through the middle, it won’t provide adequate support.
5️⃣ Heel test
Push the heel of the shoe inward. A supportive shoe will have a sturdy, deep heel cup that resists collapsing. This helps keep the foot aligned and reduces unnecessary movement inside the shoe.
Well-fitted shoes support healthy foot development, promote good foot posture, protect growing feet, and help your child stay active, comfortable and focused throughout the school day.
