🌟 Career Pathways at Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal 🌟

Last week we welcomed Scott, Mick, and Sharon from Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) to YIRS One Stop Youth Shop! 🙌

They spoke with our young people about the wide range of career opportunities available at DBCT, including the different pathways into the industry, the importance of training, and the skills needed to succeed.

A big thank you to the DBCT team for sharing their time and knowledge – it was a great chance for our clients to hear firsthand about local employment options and future career possibilities. 💼✨

🚗 A Big Congratulations to Pony! 🎉

YIRS One Stop Youth Shop recently had the pleasure of supporting Pony on his journey towards his Learner’s Licence.

We assisted Pony with registering and covering the costs for his Prep L course. After all his hard work, Pony successfully passed the course! 🙌

To help him take the next step, YIRS also covered the costs involved in obtaining his Learner’s Photo Identification Card.

Well done, Pony — we’re proud to see you working towards your goals and independence on the road! 🚦

🚗 A Huge Thank You from YIRS One Stop Youth Shop! 🚗

Yesterday, we were incredibly fortunate to receive a donated vehicle through the Cars for Communities project – and what a journey this car has been on!

Thanks to the Mackay Chamber of Commerce and the talented students from Mackay Engineering College, this car has been fully restored – from the engine bay to the final polish – and is now ready to hit the road. The students put in countless hours of mechanical work, detailing, and care to give this vehicle a second life, and the results speak for themselves.

This car will be an invaluable resource for YIRS, helping us reach and support more young people across the Mackay community.

A heartfelt thank you to Cars for Communities, Mackay Chamber of Commerce, and Mackay Engineering College for your generosity, dedication, and community spirit. We’re so grateful for your support! ❤️

🌟 Real-World Experiences for Local Youth! 🌟

This week, clients from YIRS One Stop Youth Shop had the fantastic opportunity to visit Vassallo Constructions.

With the help of Grant and Jared from Vassallo, the group explored the Maintenance Workshop, learning about the tools, machinery, and the behind-the-scenes work that keeps construction sites moving. 🛠️🔧

They also had the chance to visit one of Vassallo's active work sites in the city, giving them a valuable look into the real-world environment of the construction industry.

A big thank you to Vassallo Constructions for welcoming us and supporting our young people on their journey toward future employment and learning! 🙌

🖤💛❤️ NAIDOC 2025 – YIRS Participation ❤️💛🖤

Last Friday, YIRS One Stop Youth Shop proudly participated in the NAIDOC Week Parade through Mackay city, celebrating this year’s theme and walking alongside community members to recognise and honour First Nations culture, history, and achievements.

We also enjoyed connecting with everyone at our stall in Queens Park after the parade. It was great to see so many young people and families come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week.

Thank you to everyone who came and had a yarn with us on Friday. ✨
