‘kay. so I might be a little obsessed with clicking the “refresh” button on my new email platform...

but you guys are making it worth it!

my cat gets a fright as I let out a wee shriek every time I see your names pop up! 😆

so I’ll be here, on the couch, scaring the kitty, waiting to see who else signs up before midnight tonight (11:59pm 30 sep).

it’s funny; yesterday, today couldn’t come soon enough. but now that bastard doubt is creeping in.

facebook’s business model doesn’t want us closing down our accounts... ever.

that’s why disabling them (tried that, didn’t work!) is so much easier and suggested at every click!

to delete is to lose everything - forever, even the right to use my business name should I ever want to reinstate my profile.

sigh. deep breaths as I remind myself to stay strong and channel this incredible energy, elsewhere.

so come midnight... I’m out.
these social pages will close down... for good.

it’s been fun here.
but time to let go.

hope to see ya on the emails!
much love, sades x

ps this new community is nothing short of AMAZING and filled with most gorgeous people thus far (many students but some incredible teachers and mentors of mine too!) click link below if you'd like to join us, the cat will be thrilled 🥴

faaaaaaaaaaark it feels good, truly liberating.

but I’ll keep those of you in our email community posted - sh*t could get real... and fast!

one more sleep and then all social media for SWY will shut down.
I was feeling a little tentative at first, thinking about all the info I’ll lose -
but now, it can’t come soon enough. I am so ready to let this one go.
it was never about you guys,
I’ve had nothing but support here.
this is about the ‘machine’ behind my screen.
it’s about the AI that we no longer have control over.
the business model that’s made it impossible for us all to have a conversation on the topics that truly matter.
that’s divided us and polarised our beliefs.
that refuses to acknowledge the mental health of their moderators that can’t sleep due to what they witness during their 5000 clicks per DAY - some of the most heinous acts of our lives, on the daily.
because Facebook is the ONLY platform that doesn’t require a delay on their “fb lives” - by design.
because how we react in those first few seconds, minutes, to live massacres and suicides - our behaviour to that is recorded, and noted, and our very own psychology is used against us... because we can’t turn away.
and I just can’t support that anymore.
Facebook & Google will be the first to go (gmail & google calendar will be tough!)
YouTube for my kids will feel impossible - and it just might be (the restrictions I believe are purposefully problematic).
but we don’t have a choice. we have to try.
there’s an election coming up for my friends in the US and it’s possible they will lose their democracy - that’s largely due to social media.
and when you look out your window, and see the protests and the mess out there, it’s already happening here.
ps if you haven’t, watch on Netflix. if you don’t have access to netflix do a search on Tristan Harris (not a google search! try ecosia 😜)

will it be possible to run a “successful” business without social media?

I honestly don’t know...

social media compounds this issue with such prowess, no one is immune.

i’m choosing to shut it all down for so many reasons, but also because it’s just no longer enjoyable.

as much as I’ve tried, my feed is filled with subtle messages of “you’re not enough. you need me/my product to be a better human”.

it doesn’t leave me feeling empowered and capable, it leaves me feeling empty.

scrolling is like visiting my local shopping centre - only worse.

but how amazing my day is when I put this device away (as challenging as that is!)

i’m so excited about what a “social-media-free” life will look like, and how it will feel. it already feels incredibly liberating (as much as I binge beforehand!)

i’m excited about time better spent getting to know you via my email and my website.

i am so grateful for all the support given here... but it’s time to practice what I preach - and let go.

30 sep signifies the end, in one sense. but the beginning in another.

to stay in touch, to ask questions - together. to figure out how we can get better at living, together...

please stay with me and join this incredible community, via email.

simply click the link below and I’ll look forward to checking in with you there, next week 😘

20/09/2020

if you watch anything this year;
then make it
if not for you, for our kids.
my business model is about building genuine relationships in order to help those who are interested.
social media’s business model is to amplify hostile voices because it’s profitable.
i’m about reminding you (and me) that we are perfect exactly as we are.
yet to pay social media to target you,
to pop into your feed uninvited,
would imply that you’re not.
and I’ve been struggling with that concept
for a very long time.
many “business mentors” have told me I can’t have a “successful” business without social media.
but with so much at stake
I believe it’s worth trying.
so if you wanna stay in touch via email,

ps notice just how hard it is to turn it all off. it’s been the hardest undertaking of any addiction i’ve had - and I’ve had a few!
pps the doco is brilliant, explained with much more clarity than myself, and offers more palatable solutions - so make sure you tune in x

13/09/2020

it’s not all peace, love and happiness.
meditation today was an ugly, hot mess.
so much so, I had to
lately, ugly hot messes are my menopausal reality.
and I wish I could tell you I was handling it like the flawless yogi you believe I am.
but that’s your perception
(because you tell me so)
and not my human reality
(just ask my family).
so then why meditate?
if there are no guarantees to (whatever that is)
why invest all this time in a pious pursuit?
because the difference
between pain and suffering, is choice.
we don’t choose pain,
but we do choose suffering.
we’re totally allowed to wallow in our s**t
(what’s more, it’s really important that we do!)
but via meditation, we learn not to hang out there... (what a f**king relief 😅)
so enjoy the rest of this sunday.
or have a wee cry and wallow in your reality.
happy in the knowledge that you’re not alone.
I’m totally 100% with you ❤️😘
ps my mediocre email has been a long time coming - and I’m almost there.

11/09/2020

you: “so your studio is still staying closed til 2021?”
me: “yes”
you: “so can you suggest anywhere else within the northern beaches area?”
me: “no clue who's running since covid 😬 let me go take a look 🤪”

here’s what I found:

Northern Beaches 24/7 (yoga classes available on their timetable)
Ree's Sangha Yoga (Bucasia Esplanade, Ree also teaches at the above gym)
Yoga At Maria's (Eimeo Surf Club)

if you know of anyone I've missed, please feel free to add them into the comments.

my apologies if I've seemed vague when asked this in person (at the supermarket) I do indeed live under a rock (!!) and just had no clue who's been able to re-open since covid.

and although it's been a while since I've been to any of these classes (I am a massive, MASSIVE introvert!) I have been, and they are wonderful teachers.

yoga is so vast, and each teacher brings their own take to their classes.

we're so lucky to have such a variety of brilliant teachers here. I always suggest keep trying classes until you find the teacher that "speaks" to you... because you will.

my 2 cents worth: take it one habit at a time.

what is the one thing you wish you could make time for? and do that thing for 5 mins per day (and only 5 mins, sometimes you'll be tempted to do more, don't).

before covid hit, I shared that I was craving some stillness in my life, and boy, did I get!

so I chose my space, carefully, and set it up in a way that felt incredibly welcoming (warm lighting, blankets and cushions) and told myself I would lie down there for 20 mins per day, with absolutely no expectation. no thoughts of whether I'm doing it right or wrong.

this was surprisingly easy, because it was *attractive*. the thought of gifting myself the pleasure of lying down on the daily was something I relished, and I still do.

it was the beginning of many more habits that I've built over the last 6 months (strength training being another, because what I learned from lying down, is that I also need to move).

I might miss a day here and there, but I try desperately not to miss two in a row.

I'm also (still) working hard on not beating myself up for all the things I'm still not finding time to do (there are many, and there always will be!)

I'm working hard on giving myself huge kudos for all the things I am doing... and not giving so much of a s**t about the fact that my *something* may look like *not much* to others.

my recent critical thinking q: where did I get the idea that I need to be productive?

if your life is designed in such a way that you don't have time to look up at the clouds and appreciate their beauty - then you might wanna look at being the architect of that event, becoming a reality.

have a beautiful weekend x

not to be intentionally controversial, but just so you know who I am.

“the most important thing there is to say about anything is very simple.

so simple, in fact, that it’s hard for most people to understand how important it really is when they hear it for the first time.

but here it is:

there is only now.
anything that isn’t now isn’t real.”

from his book “how to end the stories that screw up your life”

I was devastated when I couldn’t make it to my 10 day retreat with Byron Katie earlier this year... but then I found Ernest 😁

I repeat this to myself *constantly*
it’s an absolute game changer.

btw: ain’t nothing *esoteric* about byron katie’s “the work”. it’s simple *coherence therapy* 🧠

are you a small business owner?

i saw this a couple of years ago and it resonated so much I just had to do a search and re-watch it.

yes, I HAD to ignore the *high-five-ing* the *whoop-whoop-ing* and the *turn to your partner-ing* ... this s**z drives me bat-s**t craaaaazy!

aaaaaand I HAVE to keep an open mind or I miss the stuff that makes sense and CHANGES MY LIFE trajectory (potentially).

giving up screens, and trying to take back the control I have lost to them is proving to be one of the most challenging things I've done... ev-errrrrr.

it's way harder than quitting smoking, and makes giving up the booze look like a walk through an alcohol-free pub... (is that a cafe?)

you and I (and our kids) are in the trenches when it comes to technology and screens.

in fact, we're the canaries. no-one knows how this is gonna pan out.

BUT I also believe we're learning a s**t-tonne from the mistakes our generation (the first!) is making.

I believe we're going to get much, much better at how we navigate these incredible tools - and I'm excited about those times...

but seriously, I can't wait that long!

*signs off to find butcher's paper and whiteboard*

ps I have Brendon Burchard - Live. Love. Matter. book, it's "sitting on the shelf, unread, looking pretty!" *schedules his book into my calendar*

pps Leo Babauta Zen Habits is another dude who really resonates too 😉 I've picked up some great habits from both him and James Clear of Atomic Habits fame.

life is a ride innit?

recent thoughts:
what’s the difference between:
a religion & a cult?
what’s the difference between:
a charlatan & a guru?
what’s the difference between:
yoga & mysticism?
what’s the difference between:
yoga & a cult?

do I even teach yoga anymore?
wtf is yoga?
but wtf is yoga to me?
do I agree with the philosophies shared by yoga?
do I have to agree with them?

so why don’t you teach using sanskrit?
so why don’t you study hindu and philosophy?

am I being totally honest with myself?
am I being totally honest on the socials?

why do certain words trigger (eg cultivate, hold space, higher self, spiritual - to name a few!)

what am I doing right now that’s helping me?
would you even call that meditation...
or relaxation
or stillness
or just a glorified nap?

does it f**ing matter?!

will share thoughts and answers in person. too much of a minefield on the socials 🤪

there’s never an uncomfortable or stressful time where it doesn’t apply.

i hope you found some joy this weekend.
