A BRIGHT START TO THE LUNAR NEW YEAR

Residents at Good Shepherd Lodge welcomed the Lunar New Year with a colourful celebration inspired by traditions from China and Japan, complete with a stunning lantern parade.

There were lots of smiles and laughter as everyone discovered their Chinese zodiac signs and learned about the three gods — Fu, Lu and Shou — symbolising happiness and good fortune, prosperity and success, and longevity. The afternoon was filled with fun, connection, and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

The festivities concluded with refreshments and a delicious Chinese-inspired afternoon tea, creating a joyful and culturally rich experience for all who attended.

OUT AND ABOUT WITH OUR INDEPENDENT LIVING RESIDENTS

Our independent living residents from Kerrisdale Gardens recently visited Zarby’s Café at Mt Ossa Rural, a vibrant 1950s-style diner with great food, classic milk bar décor and an awesome atmosphere.

It was a great day out with friends - sharing stories and soaking up the retro vibes.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY❤️

Our creative residents at Good Shepherd Lodge have been busy crafting and preparing a beautiful love balloon for today’s display in Dalrymple Way 💕🎈

A special shoutout to our wonderful Leisure and Lifestyle team for putting together a fabulous Valentine’s photo booth! We’ve captured so many heartwarming photos of our residents and staff celebrating the day together.

We were delighted to see Mrs Snell stop by for a photo with our ever-cheerful Stuart, a truly special moment! Even the maintenance team downed their tools long enough to jump into the photo booth, proving they’re just as good at striking a pose as they are at fixing things! 😉

It’s been a day filled with smiles, laughter, and lots of love! 💗

OUT AND ABOUT – A LOVELY DAY IN NATURE

Residents from Kerrisdale Gardens enjoyed a lovely bus trip to Queens Park recently, one of the many outings they frequently enjoy.

After the rain, the park was lush and vibrant with bursts of colourful flowers adding a cheerful touch. A gentle stroll, fresh air, and great company made for smiles all around.

Outings like this are just one of the many ways our residents enjoy making happy memories together!

TINY VISITORS, BIG SMILES 🐥

We had some very special visitors at Kerrisdale Gardens this week.

Baby chickens came to visit our residents and they were an absolute hit, winning over our Facility Manager Emily as well!

Even better - these little ones belong to one of our staff members, which means we’ll get to enjoy regular visits and watch them grow along the way.

THUMBS UP FOR THE NEW MENU

A new menu has been created with residents’ preferences at its heart.

Davide Giordano, our Risk & Compliance Business Partner—and a very experienced chef—teamed up with Head Chef Barry Hull to transform the menu into one that truly reflects what residents enjoy eating.

“Some of the residents are very clear about what they do and don’t like, and our team wanted to make sure we listened to them while still meeting their nutritional needs,” Barry said.

The menu was trialed over three weeks, with residents invited to share their feedback using a simple thumbs-up or thumbs-down system. The final menu now features many classic favourites, including Bread and Butter Pudding and Cottage Pie. Several dishes were inspired by residents’ own recipes, which were tested and incorporated into the menu. One standout new favourite is Pancakes with Bacon and Maple Syrup.

Running on a four-week cycle, the new menu has been extremely well received and is proving to be a great success.

CAFE BRINGING SMILES

Anyone who has visited the Café at Good Shepherd Lodge will have noticed a new energy. Stuart Snell brings warmth and humour to everyone he meets.

Stuart has had a diverse career including 20 years with Australia Post, numerous sales roles including real estate, cars, radio advertising, ice cream, running the local Jamaica Blue franchise and even as a Funeral Director. By his own admission, he just can’t seem to settle down and retire so when the opportunity came to join Good Shepherd Lodge’s café team, he jumped at it and “I love it.”

Stuart loves a chat but if you really want to get him going, ask about model railways. Stuart still has the set he got when he was 7 years old but is currently working with some friends on a major project which is planned to go to Bundaberg for exhibition.

Drop in for a snack, cuppa, lunch - all served with a smile and chat.

IT’S BEEN BUSY, BUSY, BUSY AT KERRISDALE GARDENS

From celebrating our 10th anniversary in style to introducing table tennis and installing a model railway in the Community Shed, there’s been lots happening.

Our 10th anniversary in September was marked with a charming afternoon tea with beautiful piano music from Rob Covey. A stunning cake was cut by Barbara and Peter Tait, honouring John Tait’s remarkable 26 years as Board Chair.

The idea of playing table tennis 🏓 (something many of our community hadn’t done for decades) sparked plenty of excitement. Thanks to the generosity of the Mackay Table Tennis Club, they were able to play with a loaned table and equipment. Watching them was amazing - their agility and quick thinking was a real treat to see!

The Community Shed continues to be a hub of activity and friendship. One corner holds a special favourite - a model railway lovingly maintained and operated by residents. The HO gauge layout features multiple tracks and trains, including the ever-popular Thomas.

We’re so excited to see what the next six months brings! ✨

This is a huge step forward in ensuring reliable care and peace of mind for everyone who calls Good Shepherd Lodge home.
