It's National Skin Cancer Action Week

Did you know Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world? Fortunately, skin cancer is almost entirely preventable. An easy way to ensure you’re protected from the sun is to make sun protection a part of your routine.

Slip on sun protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible

Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF50 or SPF50+ sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors. Sunscreen should be used in conjunction with other measures.

Slap on a hat to protect your face, head, neck and ears

Seek shade

Slide on sunglasses and ensure they meet Australian Standards.

It’s important to get to know your skin and what looks normal for you. If you notice any changes in the size, shape or colour of an existing spot, or the development of a new spot, you should get it checked as soon as possible.

You can book an appointment for a comprehensive skin cancer check by calling us on 02 6568 1155 or booking online: https://www.hotdoc.com.au/medical-centres/macksville-NSW-2447/macksville-medical-centre/doctors.

It's Invisible Disabilities Week (19–25 Oct), which shines a light on neurological, cognitive, sensory, and chronic pain disorders.

ADHD is just one of many hidden disabilities that can impact daily life that needs more recognition, empathy and support.

Started by Invisible Disabilities Association, this week is a reminder that you don’t have to see a person's disability to support them.

Look out for the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower 🌻 — a symbol that someone may need extra time, help, or understanding.

It was Restart a Heart Day yesterday.

Over 32,000 people in Australia suffer a cardiac arrest outside hospital. Devastatingly, only about 10% survive.

If you think someone is in cardiac arrest, follow the steps of Call, Push, Shock. Remember, any attempt at resuscitation is better than no attempt and your quick action can give them the best chance of survival.

Call Triple Zero (000) immediately
The operator will guide you through CPR and how to use an AED if there is one available.

Push hard and fast in the centre of the chest
Push at a rate of 100–120 compressions per minute. Do not stop until help arrives or an AED becomes available.

Use an AED to deliver a shock as soon as possible
AEDs are easy to use and safe for both the user and the patient.

AEDs (automated external defibrillators) are simple to use. Just turn it on and follow the prompts. Your quick action could help save a life.
