The festive season is fast approaching, and we’re delighted to share our plans for celebrating Christmas with our residents, families, and team members. This is always a very special time in our home, and we look forward to celebrating together with warmth, joy, and community spirit.

🎶 Christmas Parties & Carol Nights

We have a wonderful program of carols and Christmas gatherings planned throughout December:

Christmas Carols with Sister Anne and the Choir – Monday, 15 December at 6:00 pm
Level One, Cherry Lane, Bonny Doon, and Brigadoon – Tuesday, 16 December at 11:30 am
Fairweather – Wednesday, 17 December at 11:30 am
Level Two – Thursday, 18 December at 11:30 am
Families are warmly invited to join us for these events to share in the festive spirit with your loved ones.

Morning & Afternoon Tea

As in previous years, we invite all residents, families, friends, and team members to enjoy complimentary Morning and Afternoon Tea on Christmas Day.

Homemade festive treats prepared by our chefs
Beautifully decorated tables and seasonal cheer
No charge for these gatherings
Christmas Day Meals

Christmas Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner will be served for residents only, featuring special menus and festive décor.
To ensure a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience for all residents, we are unable to accommodate visitors during these main meal times.

Families are, however, very welcome to:

Join residents for Morning or Afternoon Tea, or
Take your loved one out for a meal or activity on Christmas Day if you wish.
If you plan to take your loved one out, please arrange a time in advance so our care staff can ensure they are ready for your visit.

Residents who prefer to dine privately with visitors in their rooms are welcome to do so; however, please note that meals will be provided for residents only.

We truly look forward to celebrating this wonderful season together. Thank you for your continued support, understanding, and partnership in making this a joyful and memorable Christmas for our residents.

Over the past two months, our scenic ice-cream drives have turned into wonderful history tours of the Clarence Valley — and this month’s trip to Ulmarra was no exception! One of our residents, Roy, who was born and bred in the Ulmarra area and even born in the old Ulmarra Hospital, treated us to a personalised guided tour. His stories brought the town to life, and our residents were absolutely thrilled. In fact, they enjoyed it so much we’ve already been asked to run the tour again for another group!

We are excited to finally share the transformation of our Level 1 verandah! Over the past two months, our team has been working closely with our residents to bring our Floral Frenzy competition entry to life — an incredible opportunity to rejuvenate a space that means so much to those who call Mareeba home.

This has been one of our biggest projects to date, and it simply wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support, teamwork and generosity from both our staff and our wider community.

Donations and Engagement from Our Local Community
Our Floral Frenzy project was brought to life thanks to the kindness and contributions of community members, groups and local businesses. Their support helped create a vibrant, welcoming space our residents will enjoy for years to come. We extend our heartfelt thanks to:
• Raeyah Kapeen for our amazing ‘Rainbow Serpent mural… a massive piece so beautifully hand done
• The Men’s Shed and The Green Room NDIS for crafting our vertical planter boxes
• Mitre 10 for supplying pallets and delivering them to the Men’s Shed
• Roz for her beautiful selection of plants
• Gorman’s Glass for providing the perspex to protect our artwork
• Yamba Tiles & Lights for donating tiles for our mosaic tables
• Ellie for creating our stunning signage

Every month we’re fortunate to welcome a number of entertainers through our doors — some volunteer their time, others are professionals — but every single one of them brings the same thing: joy, laughter and connection to our residents. 💛

On Friday, we were lucky to welcome back the incredible Tempo-Mentalists, who once again filled our home with music, movement, and smiles all around! From toe-tapping tunes to singalongs, their energy and warmth light up the room every time they visit. 🎤💃

A huge thank you to all the wonderful entertainers and volunteers who share their talents with us — your presence makes such a difference and brings our community together in the most special way. 🌟

Every fortnight, our residents roll up their sleeves and join Cooking Club with Chef Matty! This week was all about pizzas — and the smiles said it all! Residents enjoyed creating their own delicious afternoon tea while sharing stories, laughter, and a few secret recipes.

Cooking sessions like these bring so many benefits:

Another week, more adventures for our Mareeba residents!

Our Fairweather group enjoyed a sunny trip to Brooms Head for ice cream, while another group of residents spent a wonderful afternoon at the Lawrence Tavern.

These community outings bring so much joy, connection, and a sense of belonging, reminding us that life at Mareeba is filled with laughter, friendship, and meaningful moments shared together.

When you can’t go to the Melbourne Cup… the Melbourne Cup comes to you! 🐎💐

What an incredible day at Mareeba as we brought the excitement, fashion, and fun of the Melbourne Cup right to our residents!

A massive thank you to Lyn, our racing superstar, and her wonderful helpers for organising such a fabulous event. Our fashion parade was a highlight of the day, with outfits kindly lent and donated by Anglican Op Shop Maclean and Bev at Clovelly’s Fashions Maclean — your generosity made it all possible!

A big shoutout to Rob from Cobweb Collection for joining in the fun and providing fantastic entertainment, and to all our staff who strutted their stuff on the catwalk and helped our residents shine throughout the day.

And of course, our catering team served up a beautiful lunch and delicious nibbles as we all gathered to watch the big race together.

It was a day full of colour, laughter, and community spirit — Mareeba style! 💛✨

Official Opening of Whiddon Maclean Mareeba

Last Thursday, 30th October, we had the honour of hosting our Welcome to Whiddon luncheon — a special celebration bringing together our residents, their families, and our dedicated team.

Our wonderful resident David Lucas and staff member Linda proudly unveiled the new plaque and cut the cake, marking an important milestone in our community’s journey.

Events like this don’t just happen — they’re the result of teamwork and passion. A heartfelt thank you to our catering team for the incredible spread that went above and beyond expectations, our maintenance crew, cleaners, and Leisure & Lifestyle team for the beautiful setup and pack down, and our care staff for ensuring our residents looked their best and were well cared for throughout the day.

A special thank you also to Aunty Lenore for her meaningful Welcome to Country, and to our management team for their behind-the-scenes support and organisation.

It was a massive day — but every moment was worth it, seeing the smiles and joy shared by all in attendance. ❤️
