⚠️PSA for our T1D crew: This could change how you travel
The Sunflower Lanyard is a discreet, powerful way to signal that you might need a little extra time, space, or support, especially when diabetes isn’t visible.
🌻 Available free from information desks at all major domestic airports across Australia, this small symbol can make a big difference when you need to advocate for yourself.
Diabetes may be invisible, but your needs are not.

Meet our , Chris Winter.
Chris isn’t just running a marathon — he’s chasing history. Aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon by a person living with type 1 diabetes (currently 2:30:09). He completed his first marathon before his diagnosis and is now proving to himself and others that type 1 doesn’t stop you from chasing your dreams.
Chris will be taking on the iconic Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival on Sunday, 12 October 2025, starting on Batman Avenue and culminating with a lap of honour inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) — a course known for its flat, fast terrain and stunning city-and-coastal views
In training, Chris covers around 100 km each week: early morning runs (when his blood sugar responds best), with VO max workouts on Tuesdays, marathon-pace sessions on Fridays, and a long run (around 32 km) on Sundays.
“It’s not just about a time — it’s about showing type 1s everywhere that your diagnosis doesn’t define your limits.”
With the MiniMed 780G insulin pump + CGM, Chris has brought his HbA1c from 8.0 down to 6.8. It gives real-time food and exercise insights, lets him set temporary targets during marathons — and even delivers overnight autocorrections that bring peace of mind.
His most memorable milestone? Beating a 10 km PB that had stood for 16 years — a victory that convinced him a 2:30 marathon was within reach.
His advice to other type 1 athletes:
Consider insulin pump therapy if you're on multiple daily injections — it cuts down daily decisions and frees mental energy for your goals.
Fuel for performance, not just for blood sugar control.
If Chris hits or beats that record, he’ll take a well-earned week off — to celebrate with his biggest supporters: his loving wife and three kids.
Let’s get behind Chris — not just for his personal best, but for every type 1 inspired by his journey.

✨ “Hi Ken!” ✨
Behind every T1D Barbie is a Ken who shows up.
He carries juice boxes in his glovebox, learns the difference between highs and lows, and dances through 3am alarms like it’s a beach party.
In the world of T1D, he’s not just Ken. He’s a T3: a care partner, a co-pilot, a calm in the chaos.
This one’s for the Kens (and all care partners) who make managing diabetes feel just a little less lonely and a lot more possible. Thanks for being part of our story.
👉 And while this post says “Ken,” we know T3s come in all forms; partners, parents, friends, siblings, colleagues. No matter who you are, if you support someone with T1D, you’re our kind of hero
