Does a Negative Parasite Test Mean You’re in the Clear? Not Always.
It’s a common assumption that one negative stool sample equals an all clear.
In reality, parasites shed intermittently — meaning they may not appear in a single sample, even when present. This becomes even more important if you’ve recently travelled overseas and symptoms persist.
These days, many laboratories rely solely on PCR testing. At Histopath Diagnostic Specialists, we routinely use dual-modality testing, combining expert microscopy with molecular PCR to maximise detection sensitivity.
Collecting multiple samples (typically three over several days) also significantly improves detection and diagnostic accuracy.
Think of it like fishing — one empty net doesn’t mean there are no fish.
If you’ve travelled overseas and still don’t have answers, the right testing approach matters.
Better testing supports better outcomes for patients.
