A great day on Friday at Cochlear for our first year audiology students including a manufacturing tour, an inspirational talk from April Taneja-Young on "Where your audiology degree can take you" and exploring hands on activities such as simulated electrode insertion with Cochlear's engineers. Thank you to the Cochlear team especially Falguni Gami for making this day possible.

10 of our Master of Clinical Audiology students are on their way to spend two weeks in Northern Territory working on Professor Mridula Sharma and Professor Katherine Demuth’s study looking at the association between Otitis Media, hearing, auditory processing and phonological awareness in children - with a focus on indigenous children.

It’s World Hearing Day and Macquarie University Hearing is hosting an Australian Eye and Ear Health survey update and public lecture on “Why and how you need to look after your hearing”. Our Master of Clinical Audiology students are conducting hearing screening tests during the breaks.

MQ hearing research has a major global impact

The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is the most widely used screening test for cognitive impairment/dementia. But the MoCA relies on someone having good hearing. Someone might fail the MoCA because of hearing loss, not cognitive impairment.

Via his European SENSEcog program, Dr Piers Dawes and colleagues have just released a version of the MoCA adapted and validated for people with hearing loss. The new MoCA-HI is now available free via MoCAtest.org
