Today is International Friendship Day!

Life gets busy, we get it. But don’t lose sight of the people who matter most.
Take a moment to check in, share a laugh, or remind someone you’re thinking of them.
Even better, reconnect with someone you haven’t seen in a while.
Friendship lifts us up by supporting our mental, emotional, and even physical wellbeing in powerful ways. And remember, family can be friends too.

Here’s to the connections that make life brighter.

Hitting the slopes this winter? Don’t forget protection!

Sun safety doesn’t take a holiday in winter, especially at the snow. At higher altitudes, UV rays can be even more intense and reflect off the snow, increasing your risk of eye damage. High winds can also harm our eyes in harsh snowy conditions!

Whether you’re skiing, snowboarding, or just enjoying the snow, make sure to:
😎 Wear sunglasses or goggles with high UV protection.
😎 Consider using wraparound styles that block reflected rays.
😎 Pack a spare pair of sunnies, just in case!

Your eyes need just as much protection at the snow as they do at the beach.

It's Diabetes Awareness Week! Did you know that diabetes can affect your eyes?

Diabetes can lead to serious eye conditions like macular edema and diabetic retinopathy - both of which can cause vision loss if untreated. Both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes also increases your risk of developing glaucoma and cataracts.

Managing your diabetes and having regular comprehensive eye exams are key steps to protect your sight. If you have diabetes, don’t wait for symptoms; early detection and treatment can save your vision.

Take care of your eyes, and encourage your loved ones to do the same this Diabetes
Awareness Week.

Hey there! Don’t forget to blink

Spending prolonged periods using screens? You’re not alone.

Screen use can reduce your blink rate by more than 60%, often leading to dry eyes,
irritation, and digital eye strain.

Place a sticky note by your computer while you work or even set an alarm! Just remind
yourself to consciously blink more when using screens!

👁️ Today is Nystagmus Awareness Day 💙
Nystagmus is a condition that causes involuntary eye movements, often affecting vision, depth perception, and balance. It’s more common than you might think—and yet often misunderstood.

At Maffra Vision Care, we’re dedicated to raising awareness, supporting early diagnosis, and helping patients manage their vision with compassion and care.

Let’s shine a light on nystagmus and support those living with it every day.

Cooler weather can sometimes lead to dry, irritated eyes.

As the air temperature drops, so does humidity — which may affect eye comfort for some people.

If your eyes feel dry this winter, consider keeping lubricating eye drops handy and speak with your optometrist about effective ways to stay comfortable, the different ways of treating dry eyes and the best lubricating eye drops for you.

The screen time wakeup call! 📱💻
Too much screen time? More kids are developing myopia, and excessive screen use / time spent focussing up close is a risk factor. Our advice? Off screens. Outside. Optometrist.
