Dr Marlee Koopman (Osteopath) is now seeing newborns, infants and toddlers. Since coming back from maternity leave and struggling with her own child’s feeding issues, she decided to do extra study so that she can help other families in our community.

Some things the Osteopathy for babies may help with include but are not limited to:
•Feeding and Digestive issues:
•Sleep Disturbances:
•Head and Neck issues:
•Postural and Movement concerns:
•Tension as result of pregnancy and/or delivery
•General discomfort/unsettled

Osteopathy treatment for babies looks quite different to treatments used on adults and older children. Each technique is gentle and requires minimal movements. Treatment can be done while feeding, cuddling or even sleeping.

If this is something you think would benefit you and your family, or if you have further questions please contact Marlee on marlee@axisosteoandmovement.com.au or

What is the difference between regular Pilates and clinical Pilates? And who is clinical Pilates for?
Clinical Pilates is typically run by allied health practitioners who have vast knowledge of anatomy, injuries, and rehabilitation.
Clinical Pilates is for everyone, but can be particularly useful for pre and post natal, injury rehab and prevention, disability support, and postural education.
In clinical Pilates we focus on specific principles including breathing, elongation and articulation of the spine and trunk, core control, alignment and strength of the extremities/limbs, postural strength and control, and integration of these principles and specific movements into functional movements.
If you have any questions about clinical Pilates please let us know!

At the end of your appointment, your osteopath will discuss a management plan for you. This may involve rebooking, self management, exercise rehab or referral.
REBOOKING - your osteo will explain when and why they want to see you next, or otherwise offer to check in at some point in time.
SELF MANAGEMENT - At home self management may involve heat or ice packs, or discussing medication with your GP or pharmacist. Your osteo will discuss the most appropriate options for you.
EXERCISE REHAB - at home exercise rehab is an important part of osteopathic management. If your osteo prescribes you exercises, they will run through them with you during your appointment, and then send you an electronic copy or explanation of them.
REFERRAL - if your osteo would like to refer you for imaging or to another practitioner, they will provide you with the necessary information or paperwork at the end of the appointment.
And of course if you have any questions at the end of your appointment or afterwards, please reach out to discuss with your osteopath! 😇

It may be useful to have a good understanding of what will happen during an osteopathy appointment in advance!
Your practitioner will explain all of this on the day, however here is a summary of how an appointment typically runs 📆
Your osteopath will collect you from the waiting room and walk you down to the treatment room. The appointment will begin with a health history taking conversation. At your initial appointment this will be more thorough, as your practitioner will be seeking to gather information about your entire health to determine what may be causing or contributing to your complaint.
From here your osteopath will conduct an examination. They may ask you to perform certain movements or tests, to rule in or out potential causes of pain. The reasoning for each test will be explained to you.
Then treatment will begin. Osteopathic treatment typically involves massage, stretches and mobilisation by using various techniques.
At the end of the appointment your osteopath will discuss home management for you, and discuss when they would like you to rebook or when they will touch base with you.
At any point, if your osteopath believes there is reason for referral, the consultation may stop in order to ensure safe practice.
If you have questions throughout the appointment, we encourage you to ask your osteopath!

We often hear from patients that they would like to try osteopathy, but they’re not sure exactly when to book for or what for!
There are a few times and reasons when it may be helpful to book an appointment
Most often, patients book when they are experiencing an episode of pain - this may be pain anywhere in the body 🦵🏼💪🏼✋🏼🦶🏼💆
You may also need to book an appointment if you’re feeling tightness which is impacting your daily activities or physical performance, such as someone who has had a cough feeling stiff through their back, or an athlete who noticed hip tightness in their recent match.
Patients may also seek treatment leading into a game or race in order to prevent injury.
And some patients come for check up treatments as they please to keep on top of any pains or niggles they have had in the past.
Let us know if you have any questions about when to book an appointment!

☎️ If you would like to book an appointment, please book online at axisosteoandmovement.com.au, or call the clinic on 9118 7854.
