This proposed NDIS legislation deserves attention from everyone connected to the disability sector.

The Bill would give the Minister the power to reduce funding for certain support types or groups of supports by percentage, with very few constraints outlined in the legislation itself.

These proposed changes could have significant impacts on participants, providers, families, and the broader sustainability of support services.

The article and explainer from Team DSC break down key proposed changes including:

• Maximum funding levels for supports
• New reassessment rules
• Changes to reasonable and necessary criteria
• Funding linked directly to eligible impairments
• Functional capacity definitions
• New definitions of permanent disability
• Ministerial powers to reduce funding categories

Whether you support the changes or have concerns, it’s important the sector understands what is being proposed.

Take the time to read, ask questions, and stay informed.

Five stars and feedback like this never gets old ⭐️

“May I say, you are amazing! The amount of support you have given in such a short time is unquestionably more than she has received before.”

We are so proud of Cassy and the genuine impact she is making. This is what good support coordination looks like, consistent, responsive, and truly person-focused.

Thank you Kevin for taking the time to share this.

There’s been a lot of noise this week about changes to the NDIS.

We know it can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to your supports, your future, and your day-to-day life.

So here’s what matters right now.

Nothing is changing overnight.
Your current supports will continue.
And you don’t have to figure this out on your own.

At Support Collective, we’re across what’s been announced and preparing for what’s ahead. As things become clearer, we’ll guide you through it, step by step.

Our role doesn’t change.

We’re here to:
support you to understand what’s happening
advocate for what you need
and make sure your voice is heard

If you’re feeling unsure or have questions, reach out to your Support Coordinator. That’s what we’re here for.

We’re in this together 💛

“Let us be clear. Supports are being cut. Not for holidays. Not for luxuries. Not for comfort. For the basics. To breathe. To eat. To get out of bed. To go to work. To hold our children. To live as much of life as possible before it is too late” writes Megan Spindler-Smith, Acting CEO of People with Disability Australia (PWDA)

“This is what the NDIS was built for. Without it, we cannot live ordinary lives. And yes, it was always going to grow.”

“It grows because the population grows. Because the cost of supports and equipment rise. Because more people are finally getting access to support that was denied to them for decades.”

“Calling that growth a problem and capping it is not a neutral budget decision.”

Financial Review

We’re seeing headlines like this gaining traction, and we need to be clear about what’s actually being represented.

This is not $12 billion for “walks.”

This is funding that allows people with disability to leave their home safely, attend appointments, stay connected to their community, and maintain their mental health. Without it, many people become isolated, unwell, and at far greater risk.

At the same time, providers delivering these supports have not seen meaningful pricing increases in years, despite rising wages, superannuation, insurance, and operational costs.

And yet, as we head into another Annual Pricing Review, the narrative being pushed is that these supports are excessive.

That matters.

Because when essential supports are framed as waste, it becomes easier to justify holding prices down, even when the cost of delivering safe, quality support continues to rise.

This is the reality on the ground:
providers are being asked to do more, with less, in an increasingly complex environment.

This isn’t just misleading, it’s unsustainable.

We can have a genuine conversation about sustainability and accountability.

But it needs to be grounded in reality.

Because this isn’t about “walks.”
It’s about properly funding essential supports, and recognising people with disability as human beings who deserve the same opportunity to live a full, connected life as everyone else.
