Feeling different textures is a fantastic way to explore sensory input. Recipes that encourage hands-on mixing and rolling make it fun and meaningful!
Rumless Rum Balls are perfect for this — separating portions, rolling them between hands, and coating them in coconut offers plenty of tactile experience.

Cookie Decorating can be a fun and delicious activity to encourage children into the kitchen. Being in the kitchen is a massive thing we all do in our day-to-day lives - from food preparation, to cooking, to eating, to cleaning up. It's an essential part of majority of people's lives, and it's important to start engaging and encouraging kids to start learning the basics from early on. You don't need to start big, just simple cookie decorating can be enough, though encourage them to practice hand washing, food hygiene and the washing up afterwards.

Baking and decorating cupcakes is more than just a fun activity; It’s a great way for children to build important skills. Through mixing, measuring, pouring, and decorating, kids develop fine motor skills, hand strength, and coordination. Following a recipe supports sequencing, planning, and problem-solving, while the sensory experience helps children explore different textures, smells, and tastes in a safe way. Baking together also encourages communication, turn-taking, and confidence as children see the results of their hard work. It’s a delicious way to learn and grow!

Not every activity at home needs to be fancy, structured or well planned to be able to practice and develop skills. We wanted to show this today. We went to the office cupboard, picked out three pieces of different coloured paper, some scissors and glue. We sat and decided to continue the Christmas Activities and create simple decorations for the tree. We did realise we had no way to stick them to the tree, so we improvised elastic bands stapled to them. This activity can encourage flexible thinking, problem solving, the ability to be adaptable and to be creative.
