At HPS, learning is not a “when we get time” thing. Every fortnight we hit pause on the clinic buzz for a Snapshot session. Bite-sized, practical, and designed to make all of us better clinicians, one shared idea at a time. 🦶✨
This week’s Snapshot was presented by Darbs and zoomed in on lateral forefoot pain and overuse injuries and how smart orthotic choices can change the game. We talked through the usual suspects like plantar plate overload, neuromas, bone stress and peroneal issues, then got practical about how foot type changes everything. The big takeaways: assess forefoot valgus properly, decide whether the case needs correction or deflection, and tailor the device. Cavus feet often need shock absorption and forefoot valgus support. Planus feet usually need stronger rearfoot control, sometimes with a small heel lift to improve timing and load. We also covered the importance of reinforcing the lateral column so devices last and keep doing their job, especially in heavier or high-demand patients.
Short version: same pain area, very different solutions depending on the foot in front of you. These sessions are why we love Snapshots. They keep us sharp, curious, and constantly levelling up for our patients. 💡👣
